John Pollock and Wai Ting review the fifth Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). We discuss Marvel’s surprising decision to hire Chris Evans for the role, the concept of using science to enhance muscle mass, the special effects used to create a scrawny, pre-serum Steve Rogers, as well as the performances of Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones and Hugo Weaving.
