A statement from the New York State Athletic Commission was issued to various media outlets on the shutdown of the April 18th event that was set for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn:

Out of an abundance of caution and in line with recent guidance issued by the Center for Disease Control and New York State, the New York State Athletic Commission informed the UFC that UFC 249 cannot be held in NY.

On Monday, UFC president Dana White appeared on ESPN’s SportsCentre announcing the postponement of its next three events while stating they would ahead with UFC 249. However, White added the possibility of the event not occurring in the United States.

The card is scheduled to be headlined by lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov defending the 155-pound championship against Tony Ferguson.

The UFC’s upcoming Fight Night cards on March 21st, March 28th, and April 11th were indefinitely postponed this past week due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
