SmackDown notes: Sasha Banks & Naomi defend titles, RK-Bro appears

By: Dave LeClair

SmackDown aired life from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Butch is scheduled to take on Kofi Kingston, RK-Bro is scheduled to confront The Bloodline about a title unification, and Sasha Banks and Naomi will defend their titles against Natalya and Shayna Baszler.

Match Results:

  • Riddle over Sami Zayn
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship: Ronda Rousey (champion) over Raquel Rodriguez
  • Women’s Tag Team Championship: Sasha Banks & Naomi (champions) over Natalya & Shayna Baszler
  • Butch over Kofi Kingston

The show opened with RK-Bro making their way to the ring to confront The Bloodline. They talked about the Usos’ inability to make decisions for themselves and the need for Roman Reigns to handle their business for them.

When Orton called Roman Reigns out, Sami Zayn instead appeared in a Bloodline shirt. Riddle made an awful joke about Zayn’s hair, saying he should be called Rusty because his hair is the color of rust. RK-Bro challenges Sami Zayn to make a match where Riddle fights Zayn, and if Riddle wins, they get the unification match. Zayn reluctantly agrees, but not tonight. Adam Pearce comes out and says that the match with Riddle will happen right now.

When the match started, Michael Cole confirmed that the match would have no bearing on whether the result of this match would influence the status of a tag team title unification match. Shockingly, the Rusty thing got over, as the crowd chanted “Rusty sucks” throughout the match. In the end, Riddle beat Zayn with the Bro Derek.

The Bloodline was backstage and The Usos say they’ll have an answer for RK-Bro tonight, so it appears that they’re going to make their own decision.

Rousey made her way to the ring, then WWE aired a recap of the match between Rousey and Flair at WrestleMania Backlash. After, Rousey issued an open challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, which was answered by Raquel Rodriguez. Rodriguez controlled the early part of the match and Rousey managed to sneak away with a win via a roll-up. They definitely made Rodriguez look strong in the loss.

Apparently, the Corbin and Moss feud isn’t over, as Corbin attacked Moss with a chair during an interview segment. He then Pillman-ized Madcap’s neck with a chair and the Andre trophy.

Sasha Banks and Naomi took on Natalya and Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Tag Team titles. After plenty of cheating attempts by the heels, Naomi managed to hit a roll-up to retain the titles.

Gulak tells Ricochet that the next time he sees Gunther he’s going to put him in his place. Of course, he sees him seconds later and he eats a giant chop to the chest for his troubles.

Kofi and Butch had a match. It was a fairly typical New Day match. Eventually, Ridge and Sheamus got involved by distracting Kofi, leading to Butch picking up the win. After the match, Butch left through the crowd before coming back to his friends to celebrate.

The Usos, Roman Reigns, and Paul Heyman made their way to the ring to close the show. After Reigns addressed the crowd for a couple of minutes, RK-Bro came out to extend the challenge to The Usos, which they accepted for next week on SmackDown in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As Roman posed with the titles, Riddle surprised Reigns with a huge knee as the pair left the ring.
