Matt Cardona: If Triple H asked for me back, I’d have a conversation, but, I don’t know if I’d go back

Matt Cardona asked for his thoughts about the idea of being asked to return to WWE and comments on his upcoming in-ring return

There is one non-negotiable that would have to come with Matt Cardona’s return to WWE.

With the new regime in place at WWE, the likes of Dakota Kai, Karrion Kross and Dexter Lumis have returned to the company as Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque is overseeing creative.

A former WWE Intercontinental Champion in Matt Cardona was asked about the idea of returning to the company while on Wrestling Inside The Ropes. He said if Levesque were to call him about a return, he for sure would have the conversation but does not think he’d want to give up all that he has established post-WWE.

Cardona added that if he were to go back, one non-negotiable is that he would have to be able to continue doing his podcast and being involved with everything that comes with that.

With Triple H is calling everybody back supposedly, if he called me back, of course I’d have a conversation. But, I don’t know if I’d go back. I don’t know. I mean, of course ‘never say never’ but I mean, my schedule now is pretty great, I’m making a lot of money and I’m having a lot of fun so it’s hard to trade that in for just to be a name on a roster. I already did that.

I mean listen, there’s no guarantees in wrestling, right? [Cardona responded when asked what would he need to hear to go back to WWE] You could promise somebody the world. Until it actually happens, it doesn’t happen. I will say one non-negotiable is that the podcast and all its brands and entities would have to be carved into the contract, like untouchable. There’s no way I’d ever stop doing this stuff because it’s my passion, it’s so much fun. We took a chance when no one else wanted to do this and it’s making us a lot of money and we’re having a lot of fun doing it and it’s my passion, I love it and there’s no way I could ever stop doing that.

In late May, Cardona suffered a torn bicep which caused him to relinquish the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. He’ll be making his in-ring return at NWA 74.

He commented on his return to the ring and joked that the only doctor who he needs approval from is himself and that ‘doctor Matt Cardona’ cleared him to wrestle.

Yeah, the recovery is going pretty damn good. The surgeons, the doctors, they originally told me I’d be out for five-to-six months. I said uhn-uhn, like Stone Cold Steve Austin. I said let me try and do this in three so I will do it in just about three. NWA 74, I’m excited about getting back in the ring. One good thing about not being under a WWE or AEW contract, the only doctor that has to clear me is me. So doctor Matt Cardona has cleared me to compete [Cardona laughed].

The match card is rounding out for nights one and two of NWA 74 on August 27th and 28th. Cardona is scheduled for night one which will also feature Kamille defending her World Women’s Championship against Taya Valkyrie.
