NXT New Year’s Evil notes: Tyler Bate returning, Dijak earns North American Title match, Jinder Mahal

Tyler Bate coming back to NXT, Dijak earns North American Title shot, Jinder Mahal scores a win, Sol Ruca's Battle Royal spot

After being off NXT TV since September, Tyler Bate is scheduled to return to the program on 1/17. He last competed on 9/14 and fell in defeat to J.D. McDonagh in a number one contender’s match for the NXT Championship. 

Jinder Mahal came back to NXT and aligned with Sanga. Mahal and Sanga ambushed The Creed Brothers (Julius & Brutus Creed) and later in the show, Jinder defeated Julius in singles competition. 

There was a singles match between Dijak and Tony D’Angelo to determine the next challenger to Wes Lee’s North American Championship. Dijak was victorious in the match. 

During the 20-woman Battle Royal main event, Sol Ruca did the following to avoid being eliminated: 

Former NXT UK talent Stevie Turner debuted a new on-screen persona and she was portrayed as a streamer. 

The following tag matches are scheduled for 1/17: 

  • Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams vs. Apollo Crews & Axiom
  • Gallus (Mark Cofffey & Wolfgang) vs. Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen
