Hayes chats NXT and AEW going head-to-head and John Cena.

NXT on USA Network and AEW Dynamite on TBS are going head-to-head on October 10th. AEW is presenting a BUY-IN on their social channels that will feature Eddie Kingston defending his ROH World and NJPW STRONG Openweight Championships against Minoru Suzuki.

One of the bouts on the marquee for NXT is a singles match between former NXT Champions, Carmelo Hayes and Bron Breakker. Hayes will be accompanied to the ring by 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena. Breakker is going to be flanked by Paul Heyman.

Hayes was invited onto Busted Open Radio and he spoke about John being in his corner and if he’s feeling the pressure. The professional in him wants to call it another day at work, but the kid in him is very excited about it.

Man, there’s pressure every night. It’s pressure when they’re trusting you in positions that they’ve trusted me in for so many times. But, with having (John) Cena by my side, the pro in me wants to say, yes, it’s another day at work but the kid in me wants to say, holy crap, this is so freaking cool. But at the same time, I have to realize what the task is at hand. The task is at hand is bringing in all these new eyes that are looking and keeping these eyes, keeping everybody who’s tuning in because John’s not gonna be there every week, Paul’s not gonna be there every week so it’s really just these guys, in a way, are catalysts to help bring more viewership to the guys that are gonna stay every single Tuesday after this so it is a pressure and it’s a responsibility and I feel like they picked the right two people to hold it down.

The conversation then transitioned over to NXT and AEW going head-to-head. Hayes was asked if management has brought up the head-to-head to talents or if talents have been discussing it amongst themselves.

Not necessarily (Hayes said when asked if NXT & AEW going head-to-head has been brought up to talent by management or if talent have been discussing it amongst themselves). I mean, this just came up during the week so, we didn’t know. It’s just kind of like, oh! Okay. We’re doing this. But, the task is still the task. Let’s get these new eyes and let’s keep these new eyes. Regardless of who’s running on what day or what’s going on, it’s let’s take this opportunity to utilize these big names being here, helping our product and let’s build this further and further and further so yeah, regardless of who’s running, it doesn’t matter. We’re still gonna do what we do.

As the chat neared its end, Hayes expressed that he wants NXT to come out on top in the ratings.

I gotta be careful with how I answer this because everything gets clipped. Man, who doesn’t want to come out on top? Who doesn’t want to come out on top? We’re all competitive deep down inside so it’s not something we’re over here like, man, I just hope we do well. Nah, we wanna come out on top no matter what. I personally wanna come out on top so maybe I’m not speaking for everybody, but me, Carmelo Hayes, if it’s up to me, whatever I’m doing is gonna come out on top so I’ll leave it there.

And more so because it’s on a Tuesday night. We do Tuesday nights. That’s where I really think it comes down to, you know what I mean? It’s like, aye, you wanna do Tuesday night? Alright, we’ll show you a Tuesday night, the show on Tuesday night and that’s all I’m gonna say on that.

After both shows go off the air, there are going to be reviews here on POST Wrestling. The Poisonrana Podcast are recording upNXT and a new episode of Rewind-A-Dynamite will be uploaded.
