Romero also chats CMLL and Andrade El Idolo.

Coming up on November 10th is NJPW Lonestar Shootout from Garland, Texas. On the marquee for the show is Mayu Iwatani defending the IWGP Women’s Championship against Stephanie Vaquer.

Going into Lonestar Shootout, New Japan liaison and NJPW STRONG booker Rocky Romero guest appeared on the WrestlePurists podcast to promote the upcoming event. While speaking about the IWGP Women’s Title bout, Romero expressed that he wants Vaquer to be a staple in the STRONG women’s division.

We’ve had Stephanie (Vaquer). I think she’s one of the best… My favorite wrestler to watch in CMLL, bar none so I really think that having her be on the (NJPW) STRONG brand and kind of really trying to have her in the mix is super important to me right now and I think she’s super marketable. She has a great look, she has great presentation. I don’t know, I think she’s cool. I like her presentation a lot so, and she’s a really, really good wrestler so, I feel like she could be a big star. I think definitely would want her to be like a staple in the women’s division on STRONG.

Earlier in the conversation, Romero mentioned that he’d love to have former IWGP Intercontinental Champion Andrade El Idolo return to NJPW for either a Japan-based show or STRONG.

It’d be awesome to have Andrade (El Idolo) come and do a New Japan show, or a New Japan U.S. show, you know? That’d be awesome (if he could sport the La Sombra mask), that’d be sick. He’s a former Intercontinental Champion, right? So it’d be nice to have him come back. Obviously, he’s been killing it in AEW. Every time he shows up and wrestles, he kills it. I would love to see him come back at some point.

In addition to his other duties and bookings, Romero is on a run with CMLL. He does not think the company had any plans to bring him back after the Grand Prix, but things went so well that he began wrestling for them more frequently.

I don’t think they (CMLL) had plans to bring me back after the Grand Prix. But I think it was just — I think I just kind of stole the show, you know? And then it was, okay, cool. This is something that we could run with.

Romero is going to be a part of a six-man tag at Lonestar Shootout. He’ll be teaming with Último Guerrero and Hechicero to take on Máscara Dorada, Tiger Mask and Atlantis.
