  • Lights-out Steel Cage Match: Hangman Page def. Swerve Strickland

The “unsanctioned” main event of AEW All Out 2024 was a bloody and violent affair as Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland brought their intense feud to a steel cage.

Chairs, tables, staples, and a cinder block all came into play in the extremely physical encounter.

The match even featured a charred piece of wood from Strickland’s destroyed childhood home, which was used as a weapon.

Both men took some brutal bumps and sustained visible injuries.

The brutality ended by knockout as Hangman shoved a hypodermic needle into Swerve’s mouth, followed by a chair shot to the head, which was hopefully carefully gimmicked.

Show Notes

** Renee Paquette, RJ City and Jeff Jarrett hosted the 90-minute pre-show from 6.30 pm ET on YouTube and AEW’s social channels. The first half-hour was mostly taken up by the trio previewing the pay-per-view card.

** Four multi-man matches were then put on for viewers of the free stream and early attendees at the Now Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The matches were called by Excalibur, Tony Schiavone and Matt Menard. No titles were on the line, and the Zero Hour results can be found above.

** AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May attacked an injured Skye Blue during an interview segment with Tony Schiavone.

** A few minutes into the pay-per-view, AEW President Tony Khan posted to social media that All Out was sold out with an attendance of 9,000.

** The Young Bucks retained their AEW World Tag Team Titles with Matthew Jackson getting the roll-up pin on Wheeler Yuta.

** The third match-up on the main card saw Will Ospreay retain his AEW International Title in an instant classic against fellow Brit, PAC.

The crowd were incredibly appreciative of the action-packed encounter. Ospreay eventually won with a Styles Clash followed by a Hidden Blade. Ricochet was shown backstage watching the match on a monitor.

** Next up was the Chicago Street Fight between Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander. As expected in a match with this stipulation, we saw a ton of plunder, even including light tubes. The match did very well in showcasing a vicious side to Nightingale, who eventually had to submit to a crossface by Statlander using a chain. It may have been the toughest spot on the card, following Ospreay and PAC, but these women were more than up to the challenge.

** Kazuchika Okada retained the AEW Continental Championship in an all-action four-way with an eventual pin on Orange Cassidy after delivering The Rainmaker. Konosuke Takeshita stood out in the match after his acclaimed showing in the 2024 G1 Climax tournament.

** Mercedes Moné retained the TBS Championship in a competitive defense to Hikaru Shida. The match quality was solid but it may have suffered a little in its placement on the card. The Moné Maker led to the pin.

** Jim Ross joined the announce desk for the AEW World Championship match between Bryan Danielson and challenger Jack Perry.

** Danielson retained his title in a result that most fans will have regarded as somewhat predictable. However, it was a very good match, and Perry will arguably have increased his stock in a competitive challenge that focused on Danielson’s injured neck.

Referee Bryce Remsburg took a bump, allowing the Young Bucks to run in and interfere. They hit the TK Driver before being run off by Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta.

It would not be enough, however, as Danielson weathered the storm to finally win with the Busaiku Knee.

** The match was overshadowed by the Blackpool Combat Club betrayal angle that followed.

** See the beginning of this report for details of the unsanctioned main event between Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland.
