Kidd issued the challenge and Tsuji accepted.
The semi-main event of NJPW Wrestling Dontaku night two saw Yota Tsuji put his IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship on the line against Yuya Uemura.
It was Tsuji’s fourth defense of the belt since winning it at Wrestle Kingdom 19. He was successful in his latest defense and afterwards, Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi & Shingo Takagi) came to the ring to celebrate with Tsuji, do a photo op and the signature L.I.J. fist bump.
In the match prior to the Global Heavyweight Title bout, Naito, Takahashi, BUSHI and Takagi were victorious in an eight-man tag that was billed as Naito and BUSHI’s final match with New Japan.
Before Naito and BUSHI exited the public’s view following the celebration with Tsuji, the champion grabbed a microphone and stated that although Naito and BUSHI leaving marks the end of L.I.J., they’ll always be connected and one day, they’ll be back as a unit.
Tsuji went on to credit Uemura and then brought up Gabe Kidd’s name. As soon as he did that, Kidd came out. He went on to issue a challenge to Tsuji for a Global Heavyweight Title rematch at Dominion on June 15th and Tsuji accepted.
The last time the two talents went one-on-one was at The New Beginning in Osaka in February. The Global Heavyweight Title was on the line and their match resulted in a double knockout in 21 minutes.
