There’s still over a week left of NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors tour, but YOH might’ve already picked up the biggest win of the entire tournament on Thursday.
In a statement performance, YOH took down reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion El Desperado in the main event of today’s card at EDION Arena Osaka #2 in Osaka, Japan.
YOH locked in an anaconda vice on Desperado during a quick sequence of reversals, keeping with the hold as the fight went to the mat. A tap eventually emerged from Desperado, ending the contest after 14 minutes.
YOH joins Taiji Ishimori and Nick Wayne as the only BOSJ competitors who have beaten Desperado since the tournament started earlier this month.
Results from Thursday’s show kept the B Block tight and competitive, with a second-place tie of six points currently being split between YOH, Desperado, Ryusuke Taguchi, Kevin Knight, Titan, Robbie Eagles, Taiji Ishimori, and MAO.
AEW’s Nick Wayne continues to lead the standings for the B Block with eight points despite falling to Ishimori in Thursday’s co-main event.
A big night of tournament action is right around the corner, as both the A and B Blocks will be competing as part of NJPW’s card on Saturday in Himeji.
