TKO Boxing’s Canelo vs. Crawford card to stream on Netflix

The first-ever event from TKO Boxing will be streaming free of any pay-per-view charge on Netflix this summer.

The super-fight between boxing legend Canelo Alvarez and undefeated Terence Crawford, co-promoted by Saudi Arabian tourism campaign Riyadh Season alongside TKO, will be live-streamed on September 13 in Las Vegas, as officially announced Tuesday.

While Allegiant Stadium was once named as the host for the card, a venue wasn’t specified in the announcements sent out Tuesday from those involved.

Canelo’s upcoming super-fight against Crawford is easily one of the biggest matchups that can be made in boxing currently. It was first announced early last month, just after the Mexican star worked to a decision victory over William Scull in Saudi Arabia.

It was confirmed shortly after the matchup was revealed that the card would be a collaboration between TKO – UFC and WWE’s parent company – and Riyadh Season, who has played a pivotal role in bankrolling some of boxing’s top fights in recent years.

TKO Boxing, which is expected to be renamed at some point, is a boxing league that was announced earlier this year. The project is expected to be carried out in close partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which is covering the venture’s financials.

While the promotion is expected to eventually develop a system that signs “up-and-coming boxers” to exclusive deals, the brand will also promote major fight cards, like the confirmed meeting between Canelo and Crawford.

TKO’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has already been tested in the lead-up to their first show.

Things took a dramatic turn last month, when Riyadh’s Turki Alashikh walked back his plan to co-promote a Canelo and Crawford fight alongside TKO, instead hosting it on his own. He also announced that the card would be moved ahead a day and instead take place on September 13, putting it head-to-head with a prominent UFC pay-per-view in Mexico.

However, both sides seemingly patched everything up ahead of the announcement made Tuesday. While the event remains in competition with a UFC card, which has since been downgraded from a PPV to a free TV Fight Night, Alalshikh put out a statement earlier this week, saying that “My brother Dana [White] will promote this fight.”

Netflix has dipped its toes into boxing coverage, most notably presenting the infamous fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson last November. The one-off show was in record-setting high demand for Netflix, causing millions to struggle with outages during the broadcast.

The streamer is scheduled to present another card next month from Madison Square Garden when Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano meet in a trilogy fight.

Netflix also has a massive $1 billion deal with TKO’s WWE to stream Monday Night Raw in the U.S. and a majority of the promotion’s live events in international markets.

The one-off boxing card landing on the service further entrenches Netflix’s partnership with TKO as the company continues to search for a new UFC media rights home by 2026, and a first-ever long-term streaming agreement for their boxing brand.
