The Empire Strikes First
Monday Night Raw from Providence, Rhode Island, kicked off with the Seth Riders coming down to the ring and Bron Breakker taking the microphone before Rollins could speak. Breakker cut a promo talking about how much he hates Sami Zayn and that he was going to take him out tonight. Paul Heyman then nervously took the microphone back from Breakker and handed it to Rollins, who asked if he was good. Bronson Reed then took the mic out of Rollins’ hand and cut his own promo on Jey Uso. Paul Heyman then reiterated what Reed and Breakker said, adding that Roman Reigns didn’t dare to come back and confront them. Heyman then addressed Penta, speaking in Spanish and making fun of his hand gestures. All of that, but we still don’t have a name for this group.

Backstage, Judgment Day was shining up their five titles when Raquel Rodriguez discovered that Roxanne Perez had set up a memorial for Liv Morgan. Rodriguez said Liv would be back soon, but Balor again reiterated how long it took him to recover from his shoulder injury. JD McDonagh then asked Finn Balor what was next for them, and they decided to speak with Adam Pearce. Dominik then discovered a “Get Well Soon Dom” cake and AJ Styles appeared, taunting Mysterio.

Kairi Sane vs. Roxanne Perez
This match did not click. It seemed as if Sane and Perez couldn’t seem to get on the same page with multiple clunky moments in the first few minutes. After a commercial break, things were back on track with Sane kicking out of a Springboard Moonsault from Perez. Roxanne was focused on Sane’s arm and wrist, as Sane had previously injured it. Kairi went for the Insane Elbow, but Raquel Rodriguez pulled her to safety. Sane instead hit Raquel with a flying cross body from the top rope to the outside. Roxanne then went for Pop Rocks, but Kairi caught Perez with a backslide for the win. Perez and Rodriguez then started beating down Sane until Asuka made the save, taking out the heels.

Jackie Redmond interviewed Sami Zayn in the back, who still had his ribs taped up from the pipe attack from Karrion Kross last week. Zayn said that he couldn’t think about Kross tonight because he had to focus on Bron Breakker. Zayn left, and Scarlett appeared. Jackie asked her if there was something she wanted to say. Scarlett responded, “No,” while looking off in the direction Zayn left.

Adam Pearce told American Made that El Grande Americano was competing tonight, and The Creeds were flabbergasted as Chad Gable was injured. Ivy Nile then asked to get a spot in the Evolution Battle Royal, and Pearce said yes. The reunited Kabuki Warriors then appeared and got the final spot in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at Evolution. A Nikki Bella video aired with her saying that she wanted one more moment to prove herself at Evolution – and with that, she was entering the Battle Royal at Evolution.

Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breakker
Sami Zayn was jumped by Karrion Kross as he was coming down to the ring and hit him in the ribs with a pipe again and the crowd chanted “We want Kross”. Officials came out to check on Zayn, and after a commercial break, Zayn argued that he could still compete. Pearce reluctantly agreed, and the match proceeded as scheduled.

Breakker focused heavily on Zayn’s injured ribs, with Zayn mounting a comeback only to be speared out of mid-air by Breakker. Bron followed that up with two more spears to pick up the win.

Backstage, the War Raiders were asking Adam Pearce for another title shot when New Day appeared in all black, saying that they were in mourning. The Raiders reminded New Day that they didn’t get automatic rematches when Becky Lynch appeared, who called Big E “a real scumbag” as she walked off.

After an ad break, Lynch was in the ring and wondered aloud how “two losers” who “lost to each other” last week got a title match against her. Becky then posited that Lyra and Bayley were in cahoots, as statistically, it was nearly impossible to have a double pin. This brought out both Lyra and Bayley. Lyra explained that Becky called her after secretly attacking Bayley right before Wrestlemania, and she would rescue the Women’s Intercontinental Championship from “two massive disappointments.” This led to all three brawling and Lyra hitting both with the Nightwing.

Backstage, Bron Breakker was asking Seth Rollins what they were going to do about Karrion Kross. Rollins brushed it off, saying no one likes him. Paul Heyman walked in and announced that Sami Zayn was out of action “indefinitely.” Rollins noted that Jey Uso was in perfect health, and Reed responded that he wouldn’t be when he was done with him. This led directly into the next match.
Jey Uso vs. Bronson Reed
Jey Uso controlled the match early on, putting Reed in Corey Graves’ chair and hitting him with a superkick. Reed responded by tossing the chair at Jey Uso’s head, which caused the disqualification. Reed then hit two Tsunamis on Jey and left.

An LA Knight video was shown, with him addressing Seth Rollins, noting that he was back in one week after three Tsunamis and that he would take Rollins out at Saturday Night’s Main Event. After that, another video was shown highlighting the history between Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.

El Grande Americano vs. Dragon Lee
Michael Cole called El Grande Americano a “farce” and noted that his tattoos had disappeared since he was last wrestling.

At one point in the match, Americano spoke what appeared to be German as he tossed Dragon Lee into the timekeeper’s area, but quickly switched to Spanish as the show went to commercial. Afterward, Dragon Lee got some offense in before Americano hit a smooth-looking blockbuster after jumping up onto the top rope. Americano then added a steel plate to his mask and hit a diving headbutt to pick up the win.

A brief video package featuring Stephanie Vaquer was aired, and it was announced that she would be part of the Battle Royal at Evolution.
Gunther and Goldberg
Next up, Gunther came down to the ring and said he had been verbally abusing Goldberg the last two weeks, and he was afraid to appear. Suddenly, a cherry red Chevelle appeared, squealing its tires, and Goldberg emerged, marching to the ring as the crowd chanted holy shit for some reason. Goldberg nailed Gunther with a punch and went for the spear, but Gunther escaped.

Seth Rollins vs. Penta
The main event of the evening saw Seth Rollins taking on Penta. Penta focused his offense on Rollins’ knee and took to the air multiple times, wowing the Providence crowd, who chanted “CM Punk” at Rollins. Penta hit the Penta Driver on Rollins for a near fall as the crowd switched to “Let’s Go Penta.” Penta went for The Sacrifice, and Rollins countered with a Buckle Bomb only to have Penta no-sell it and hit a Mexican Destroyer, with Rollins grabbing the ropes to break up the pin. Rollins then headbutted Penta in the groin, which, for some reason, wasn’t a disqualification. Rollins followed that up with the Stomp for the victory. After the match, Heyman was yelling “now” into his phone, which brought out Reed and Breakker. LA Knight appeared from the crowd and hit the BFT on Rollins to end the show.
