The Professional Fighters League (PFL) has a new CEO.
Former Turner Chairman and CEO John Martin will serve as the new CEO for the PFL, a press release confirmed Thursday.
Martin is replacing Peter Murray, who is being transitioned to a role in PFL International, focusing on the promotion’s spin-off leagues (PFL Europe, PFL MENA, PFL Africa, and more).
Prior work experience from Martin includes a run with Turner, overseeing the company’s cable networks from 2014 to 2018. Before then, he worked as the CFO of Time Warner Inc.
PFL stressed in their press release that Turner is not a newcomer to MMA, but instead has “recognized the sport’s unique appeal” ever since he saw UFC 1. They also mention that he “was an early advocate for expanding UFC’s cable distribution” while with Time Warner.
Martin is stepping into a role with steep goals to accomplish: While continuing to deliver on the promise of widespread expansion that PFL has touted for years, the promotion has to find a way to grow its viewer base on TV and in-person domestically.
