Trish Stratus on Evolution match: Do I wish there was a bigger build? Sure

Trish Stratus is looking forward to her match at Evolution on Sunday, even if she admits that the build hasn’t been perfect.

During an appearance on the Notsam Wrestling podcast this week, Stratus reflected on the build for her match this weekend against Tiffany Stratton. The match was only unveiled on last week’s SmackDown, when Stratton announced that she had chosen Stratus as her opponent for the second-ever all-women’s Premium Live Event (PLE).

The build to the match has been much quicker than most programs, first starting just a week ago and now a little over a day from its payoff. In her interview this week, Stratus admitted that she would’ve done things differently if she were in control.

“You can only control what you can control,” Stratus said. “Do I wish there was a bigger build? Do I wish we had a longer segment? Do I wish we didn’t have a very boring segment last week on Smackdown? Sure. [Laughs] But it is what it is. You get your time, you do your thing, and sometimes things get thrown together.”

While the build hasn’t been incredible, Stratus remains confident that the match between her and Stratton will be worth it.

“To me, the thing that I control is the match,” she explained. “I will control the match, we will control the match. We will tell the story, we’ll control the narrative, and that’s where I know I can do the work.”

When Stratus wrestles on Sunday as part of Evolution, it’ll be her first time challenging for a singles title since 2006, when she beat Lita for the WWE Women’s Championship. If successful, she’ll go on to meet 2025 Queen of the Ring winner Jade Cargill at Summerslam.
