CM Punk: “Pumping the brakes on any kind of office title” while still wrestling

CM Punk spoke about the possibility of working behind the scenes at WWE, and his working relationship with Paul Levesque since returning.

Punk spoke with Scott Fishman at TV Insider to promote his role in Syfy’s ‘Revival’ and reflected on his history with WWE’s chief content officer and where the relationship has improved. He acknowledged the two as being “adversarial” when both were active performers in WWE and competition.

Between me and Triple H, there is so much more of an understanding. I’ve advanced in my life to a point where I have the perspective I didn’t have before. For him likewise has advanced in life to where he has experiences and knowledge he didn’t have before.

Now we’re not and are on the same page and want to help the next generation and kind of guide them the right way with their creativity showing through, but also producing them.

Punk returned in November 2023 after his release from AEW two months prior. His appearance at the Survivor Series in Chicago was followed by a photo posted to X alongside Levesque. It marked Punk’s return to the company he left in 2013 and had many criticisms of Levesque, which he shared in his 2014 appearances on the Art of Wrestling podcast with Colt Cabana.

In the interview, Punk referred to the possibility of stepping into a behind-the-scenes role at WWE, but not until his in-ring career is over.

I’m still kind of pumping the brakes on any kind of office title. I don’t want to be office Punk while I’m active main roster wrestler Punk. Those things do not mix. You can not try to tell somebody else what to do while you are essentially booked in a certain position on the show, in my opinion. I’m stoked being a wrestler and until I hang my boots up, I’m going to be stoked being a wrestler.

Punk is set to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam on Aug. 2 or 3 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
