Santino Marella books three matchups to open TNA

A special live edition of TNA Impact from the Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island, opened with a quick tribute to Hulk Hogan.

“The world learned about the passing of the biggest icon in the history of professional wrestling, Hulk Hogan,” Tom Hannifan said. “His contributions to this company and the entirety of this industry will never be forgotten. TNA Wrestling is deeply saddened by this news, and we send our condolences to the friends, fans, and family of Hulk Hogan.”

We got a quick glimpse of the crowd chanting “USA” befsaore a highlight reel of Slammiversary played. Among the biggest moments: Both of TNA’s world titles are held by NXT talents (Jacy Jayne and Trick Williams), and Leon Slater is the youngest X-Division Champion in company history.

We went back to the live arena, where TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella came to the ring. Marella said he’s going to do everything he can to take back the TNA belts from NXT wrestlers.

Marella said that he also wants to take some NXT gold too, mentioning North American Champion Ethan Page. Masha Slamovich’s music then hit, and she made her way to the ring to join Marella.

Slamovich claimed that NXT’s Jayne “stole” her Knockouts title from her at Slammiversary. She then asked for a “contractually obligated” rematch against Jayne on next week’s episode of TNA. Marella made the match official just moments later.

Slamovich wasn’t the only one who wanted to talk with the boss. The System, newly turned babyface, made their way to the ring next. Alisha Edwards fistbumped with Slamovich as they passed by each other.

Eddie Edwards said that The System are warriors who represent TNA, and their win over NXT’s Darkstate last weekend was a prime example of that. He then talked about how disgusted he is about “outsiders” taking belts from the company.

Brian Myers, JDC, and Moose also got a moment on the mic. Moose mentioned that his match against Leon Slater reminded him why he loves TNA. Moose, who dropped his X-Division title last weekend, started to set his sights on the promotion’s world title. He explained his intentions with three words: “Whoop that Trick.”

TNA World Champion Trick Williams, alongside First Class, appeared on the stage. Williams said Moose “must be stupid” for calling for a title fight. He mentioned Order Four at one point (this will be important in just a moment).

Moose challenged Williams and First Class to come to the ring so The System could show them how they do things. As this segment touched the 15-minute mark, a few more people joined in: Order Four also appeared on the stage.

Mustafa Ali said he’ll bury Williams “like my name’s The Undertaker” if he mentions Order Four again. Ali put his attention back on The System, once again claiming that Order Four is the best faction in the entire promotion (they briefly feuded over this a couple of weeks ago).

Edwards didn’t like Ali’s promo, striking him over the head just after he got into the ring. This kicked off a brawl between Order Four and The System as Williams and First Class watched from the stage.

Back from the break, Marella approached The System backstage. As Marella was considering what to do following the brawl, Matt Cardona came into the shot and told The System he will always have their back after their win together at Slammiversary.

Marella pitched the idea of a tag match with Brian Myers and Cardona facing The Great Hands from Order Four – that got booked for later on this show. He also booked Moose, JDC and Edwards vs. Williams and First Class on next week’s episode.

Mara Sadè (formerly Jakara Jackson) returns to TNA for the first time since NXT run

Back in the ring, The Personal Concierge introduced The Elegance Brand, who appeared in the first matchup of the night. Ash, Heather, and M By Elegance were booked to face against The IInspiration’s Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay, plus a mystery third tag partner.

Who was the friend The IInspiration brought? Former NXT talent, Mara Sadè (formerly known as Jakara Jackson)! Commentary noted that Sadè actually appeared in a TNA ring before, working alongside Lash Legend at Rebellion in April, and also appearing in a pair of TV matches in recent months.

Sadè came through the ropes with a tope suicida onto the entire Elegance Brand as the show went to a break. After the show returned, Lee was getting isolated in the Elegance Brand’s corner of the ring.

McKay eventually got the hot tag to Sadè, who battled against both M By Elegance and Heather at the same time. After taking out Heather with a Swingblade, she connected with a DDT for a pin attempt, which Ash broke up.

After a quick sequence with numerous wrestlers getting involved, The Elegance Brand had a flashy double-team move: Heather gave M a hurricanrana off the top rope, allowing her to land on Sadè. This move, while nice, didn’t give them the win.

Sadè kicked M off the ring apron, then tagged The IInspiration back in, who landed their Idolizer double-team move to Heather for the pinfall win.

TNA confirmed in a press release after the match that Sadè has inked a deal to join the promotion’s roster.

The TNA Injury Report said reporter Gia Miller is OUT after suffering an attack by Tessa Blanchard at Slammiversary. They also confirmed that Moose got banged up, getting a “day-to-day” hip injury, and that KC Navarro is day-to-day with a knee injury.

Backstage, Mike Santana was approached for an interview about his Slammiversary match, but he walked away without comment. Indi Hartwell, who was interviewed next, said she wants to focus on the Knockuts title now that Tessa Blanchard is suspended. Dani Luna approached Hartwell and thanked her for her help recently.

Victoria Crawford sarcastically suggested that she wants mentor them both. An annoyed Luna suggested that they could fight. Crawford said she’ll go to Santino Marella to make that happen.

Eric Young, frustrated by NXT’s dominance in TNA recently, said that he will “cleanse this place.”

Slater, Hardys and Maclin vow to defend TNA from outsiders

Newly-crowned TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater came to the ring for a promo in the next segment.

Slater gave credit to Moose for showing him respect after their match on Sunday. He talked about his enthusiasm about AJ Styles putting him over.

Slater said that he wants to bring the X-Division back to its fast-paced, high-flying roots. “I promise I’m going to make this reign a special one,” he said. Slater then brought out The Hardys, who won the TNA Tag Team Championships at Slammiversary.

After The Hardys talked about how happy they are to win their titles, another champ showed up: Steve Maclin.

Maclin didn’t have the best Slammiversary, losing a six-man bout to Fourth Rope wrestlers on the pre-show. Like many others on this show, Maclin expressed worry about “outsiders” taking over the company.

Maclin said that it’s on all of them to defend TNA. He said whoever wants to step up, “You better be ready for a damn war.” All the champs raised their belts as the segment came to an end.

Jake Something wins fast no-DQ match over Mance Warner

The next match saw Jake Something and Mance Warner face off with a no-disqualification stipulation. They were tag partners for just one night at Slammiversary, but now they’re back to being rivals.

Warner, who stood at ringside as he waited for Something to make his entrance, was taken out by a big clothesline once his opponent appeared. The match went into the ring, where Warner used the top of a trash can on Something’s back. Steph De Lander kept tossing weapons into the ring for Warner to use, including the tops of more trash cans and numerous steel chairs.

Something threw Warner head-first into a turnbuckle which had the top of a trash can on it. Something tried for a dive over the top and to the outside, but ate a steel chair to the body as he was on his way down.

Something tossed Warner’s head onto the mat a few times, then scored with a sit-out powerbomb for a two-count. Something went to the top with Warner, aiming for a move onto a set of four chairs which were propped up.

De Lander held a leg of Something, allowing Warner to slap Something a few times before connecting with a massive superplex onto the chairs, which looked incredible. Something kicked out from a pin attempt moments later.

De Lander handed Warner a sledgehammer. He attempted to possibly kill Something by striking him in the head with the hammer, but Something dodged the move. Something sent Warner to ringside after scoring a forearm to Warner through a chair.

Something dumped thumbtacks onto the floor then tried for a chokeslam, but Warner avoided the move. After exchanging strikes, Something did a belly to back suplex, which sent them both onto the tacks.

Back in the ring, Something hit a Black Hole Slam for the pinfall win. This was a fast match, but full of flashy spots. Something got a win, bouncing him back from taking the pin at Slammiversary.

After the break, it was confirmed that Ethan Page will defend his NXT North American Championship against Santino Marella on Tuesday’s NXT.

Jacy Jayne appears for the first time since earning double-champ status

NXT Women’s Champion and TNA Knockouts World Champion Jacy Jayne appeared for the next segment alongside the rest of Fatal Influence.

Jayne started roasting the Knockouts division: Tessa Blanchard can’t stop getting suspended, the Elegance Brand is “anything but elegant,” Victoria Crawford and Rosemary “both need to be locked in an insane asylum,” and Xia Brookside looks like she’s dressed to attend a music festival. She told Xia Li (Lei Ying Lee) she should stick to MMA.

Jayne said that she’ll be holding onto her title for a long time.

Secret service helps Order Four earn pinfall win

In a match which was set up during the opening segment of the night, Order Four’s Jason Hotch and John Skyler, The Great Hands, took on Matt Cardona and Brian Myers.

Cardona got a hot tag a few minutes into the match. In a nod to Chelsea Green, he scored an Unpretty-Her to Skyler. A pin attempt was broken by Hotch, who went brawling to the outside with Myers.

Mustafa Ali and Tasha Steelz distracted Cardona in the ring. Then, as the referee was looking away, an unnamed security guard scored a huge powerbomb on Cardona. This allowed Skyler to pick up a pinfall win. Looks like having a secret service pays off.

Here’s a quick look at next week’s lineup for Impact, which will be taped:

  • Jacy Jayne vs. Masha Slamovich (TNA Knockouts World Championship)
  • Moose, Eddie Edwards & JDC vs. Trick Williams & First Class
  • The Rascalz vs. The Nemeths
  • Leon Slater vs. Cedric Alexander vs. Jason Hotch (TNA X-Division Championship) (Three-Way)

Mike Santana scores clean win over Joe Hendry in first post-Slammiversary match

Frankie Kazarian appeared on commentary for tonight’s main event, but was ejected by the referee before the entrances even started.

The main event of the night saw the two unsuccessful headliners from Slammiversary, Joe Hendry and Mike Santana, face off in singles action.

Hendry went for a handshake right as the match started. A hesitant Santana eventually shook Hendry’s hand, getting this bout underway. After some technical exchanges to get things started, business picked up a few minutes in. Santana missed with a Spin The Block, but got a two-count from a roll-up. Santana landed a senton as the show went to its final break.

The wrestlers traded shots in the middle of the ring as the show returned. Santana came running off the ropes with a huge leaping clothesline. Moments later, Hendry was able to counter a Rolling Buck 50, instead hitting a cutter to get Santana to the mat.

Hendry connected with a clothesline, then a fallaway slam. Hendry started setting up for his Standing Ovation finisher, but Santana avoided it. Hendry instead scored an Olympic Slam for a two-count.

Santana came running off the ropes, but ate a pop-up powerbomb from Hendry. The former champ followed up with a Death Valley Driver but only got a two-count afterward.

Santana avoided yet another Standing Ovation, then hit the Rolling Buck 50 for a two-count. He kept the pressure on Hendry with a frogsplash, but that got another kickout.

A striking battle turned into a roll-up pin attempt war. Eventually, Santana caught Hendry with a roll-up for a three-count, earning him a clean victory. Santana and Hendry went face-to-face after the match again, but shook hands before Hendry left the ring.
