An injury has officially taken Gabe Kidd out of the NJPW G1 Climax.

Kidd announced Friday that he won’t recover from his current knee injury before the end of the tournament, taking one of the biggest players out of the B Block.

“I was really hopeful that I could come back and power through this and continue in this G1 Climax, but I spoke to the doctors and there’s no way I could be cleared, so I have no other choice but to withdraw from the G1 Climax,” Kidd said at NJPW’s show in Tokyo this morning. “This is s***, man. This f****** sucks. It’s been a mental battle these past few days since I found out this information.”

Kidd’s sole appearance in the tournament came on the first night, when he dropped a 13-minute bout to Konosuke Takeshita. He had been pulled from a pair of G1 shows following that date, although the promotion previously stopped short of taking him out of the tournament altogether, hoping that he’d be able to return to action soon.

Kidd mentioned the support he has received from fans.

“A positive note is that I’ve received hundreds of positive messages from these people, the fans, and they’ve said that they want me to rest and come back stronger,” he said. “I can only promise you one thing: When I’m back fighting on this blue mat, it is gonna be the best version of Gabe Kidd you’ve ever f****** seen.”
