Dominik Mysterio has retained his Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam.
He won the match against challenger AJ Styles in a match heavily influenced by the late Eddie Guerrero.
Once again, the champion made his entrance first. AJ Styles followed, coming out to the ramp and his son Avery in a Guerrero-inspired low-rider.

After the bell rang, Dominik left the ring, motioning a “time-out” hand signal while Styles lay down across the corner of the ring.
Once Mysterio entered the fight, Styles took firm control until the heel swept his legs, sending him to the ground.
Styles took a spell of punishment before rallying to hit a series of his trademark moves, including quick strikes and a Pele Kick.
However, Styles missed the Phenomenal Forearm, allowing Dominik to hit a Michinoku Driver.
Mysterio managed to land the 619 but was countered as he tried to follow up with a frog splash.
Dom then removed a turnbuckle pad. As the referee was distracted and was replacing it, Mysterio attempted the Guerrero phantom chair shot. Styles was equal to the chicanery, wrapping the chair around his own head.

With the ref in total confusion, the match had to continue.
Dominik then lost his boot during a Calf Crusher attempt. Mysterio used the boot to blast Styles, seemingly knocking him out and allowing him to pick up the pinfall.
