MJF Speaks

AEW Dynamite kicked off with MJF cutting a backstage promo on Mark Briscoe while holding his new CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship title. Just as the promo was ending, someone in the crowd was heard shouting, “Happy Gilmore 2 sucked!” (to which I disagree). After that, Excalibur ran down tonight’s card and explained that Jon Moxley stormed into a production meeting and demanded a match with Speedball Mike Bailey.

Mox vs. Speedball

Early in the match, Marina Shafir got involved behind the referee’s back, and Kevin Knight got in her face. Mox then got in Knight’s face, allowing Bailey to hit his Triangle Moonsault, followed by a backflip knee drop on Mox, who was prone on the barricade.

Darby Allin then appeared in the crowd and kidnapped Wheeler Yuta, distracting Mox and leading to a two-count. Mox then applied the rear-naked choke, followed by the Death Rider for the win in a great match. Mox and Marina ran to the outside of the arena only to find Yuta in a body bag as Darby drove away. They opened the bag to find Yuta with a sign stapled to his head that read, “Forbidden Door.”

Toni & Alex Promo, Mercedes’ Arrival

Alex Windsor and Toni Storm were interviewed backstage about Alex’s involvement in the 4-Way TBS Championship qualifying match later tonight. Toni then addressed Athena and wanted to see her in person tonight.

Footage was shown earlier in the day of Mercedes arriving at the arena with her now eight belts, and Renee Paquette asking her about her loss at All In. Mercedes called her a mark and walked off.

TBS Championship Qualifying 4-Way Match

Next up was a 4-way match between Queen Aminata, Alex Windsor, Skye Blue, and Billie Starkz. Both Athena and Toni Storm were ringside for this match, cornering Starkz and Windsor. Excalibur revealed that the TBS Championship match at Forbidden Door would also be a 4-way with representation from CMLL and Stardom involved as well.

This match was hard-hitting and stiff and frankly awesome. Skye Blue then pulled out a chair and went to use it on Aminata, but Aminata reversed and dropped her hard on the unfolded chair. Athena then tried to get involved, and Toni Storm pulled her out and knocked her down. Alex Windsor then countered a Starkz move with a small package for the win. Immediately, “8 Belts” Moné appeared and got in Windsor’s face, prompting Toni Storm to get in the ring, but Athena hit the O-Face on Storm as Moné hit the Backstabber on Windsor. Athena and Moné had a brief staredown as the segment came to a close.

Young Bucks Promo

Footage from earlier in the day was shown of Renee Paquette interviewing The Young Bucks, who immediately started yelling at a production guy (Charlie Ramone), demanding a high-quality video during their entrance. They then handed him notes for Justin Roberts to read as well.

Kyle Fletcher TNT Victory Celebration

The new TNT Champion, Kyle Fletcher, was out next with the rest of the Don Callis Family. Callis discussed building the largest numerical faction in the history of professional wrestling. Callis had the TNT, Continental, and Unified championships laid out on a table at ringside. Fletcher noted that Dustin Rhodes was out indefinitely with double knee replacements, and he also took out Adam Cole, who we may never see again. Callis then revealed a new painting of a nude Fletcher with just the TNT title obscuring his nether region alongside a muscle-bound Callis. Fletcher announced that his first TNT title defense would be this Saturday on Collision. It was later announced that his opponent would be Tomohiro Ishii.

Backstage, Adam Copeland was interviewed and said that Christian Cage has learned nothing, and his focus was now on FTR and Stokely. Cope revealed that next week, he will face Stokely in a match, and if FTR, it voids their restraining order. Later, FTR responded, saying they can’t be held responsible for what Stoke does to Copeland next week. Stokely insulted Copeland’s wife, saying she had the “head of a Microbrawler” and he would pin Cope next week.

Tag Team Tournament Semi-Final

Next was the Semi-Final match in the Tag Team tournament with Brodido taking on the Young Bucks, with the winner facing FTR in the Finals. The Young Bucks got their music and Succession-inspired video back, but unfortunately, the screen did not fully raise, and they had to climb underneath it. Justin Roberts then read the note he got from them word-for-word, and then the Bucks’ traditional pyro did not go off as it usually would. “Max & Jeremy” (a reference to their Generation Me days) was then shown in the lower third as their theme switched to an “ice cream truck” version of their music.

As the match went on, the Bucks couldn’t decide what to call the EVP Trigger. They finally decided it would be “The Young Bucks Trigger,” but took too much time, and Brodido took advantage. The faces followed that up with a rocket launch springboard plancha to the outside. The Bucks then hit the TK Driver, but Brody King made the save.

Bandido and Nick Jackson then had a stand-off while standing on the ringside barrier, with Bandido coming out on top. The action continued fast and furious until Brodido hit their assisted monkey flip to pick up the win. Brodido goes on to face FTR. This match was fantastic.

Four Consecutive Promos

The Hurt Syndicate was interviewed backstage and said they were happy to hurt either team at Forbidden Door. MJF then interrupted, and Shelton and Bobby left the room. MJF suggested that they could win the World Championship together without Lashley and Benjamin. MVP said he loved MJF like a little brother, but then added his own thumbs down. MVP concluded by saying that he hopes MJF fails at winning the title because if he succeeds, Bobby Lashley is coming for him.

An Okada / Swerve promo package was aired, hyping up their match at Forbidden Door. Afterwards, Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana were interviewed on the stage and said this was a redemption match for him after losing back-to-back.

Mark Briscoe was then interviewed backstage, and Alicia Atout noted that if Briscoe wins tonight, it would be his fourth consecutive main event win, and that may put him into contention for the AEW World Championship. Hangman Adam Page then entered and noted their long history, saying that he hopes that Briscoe wins and he is his next challenger.

Queen Aminata was then interviewed backstage, and Willow Nightingale entered, saying they were going to take care of the Triangle of Madness on Collision. Kris Statlander then interrupted and facetiously hugged them both. Willow said that when Kris is ready to put their issues behind them, then they can talk.

Grudge Match Main Event

The main event of the evening was the “Grudge Match” between Mark Briscoe and MJF. The action quickly spilled into the crowd, and the announcers explained the referee allowed leniency since it was a grudge match. It was still unclear what the rules of this match were. Briscoe hit an impressive flipping neckbreaker through the crowd over the barricade on MJF.

Briscoe continually went for the Froggy Bow with MJF rolling out of the way every time until finally going through a table from the top rope to the outside. MJF then hit the Heatseeker on Briscoe for the three count, with Mark getting his foot on the rope, which the referee missed. MJF beat down Briscoe after the match and hit him with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. This brought out Hangman, who started brawling with MJF. Hangman set up for the Buckshot Lariat, but MJF took a powder as the show went off the air.
