Jonathan Gresham announced Thursday he is taking time away from the ring after suffering a medical emergency earlier in the week, which doctors diagnosed as two strokes.

On Thursday evening, Gresham shared a statement on social media detailing the experience.

He explained that he woke up two days prior, presumably on Tuesday, unable to walk or move the left side of his body, and experiencing impaired vision and speech. After managing to call 911, he was taken to a hospital.

Remarkably, he noted that his wife, Jordynne Grace, who was out of town in Orlando, saw him being taken from their Atlanta home by medical technicians on their Ring doorbell camera.

She flew home immediately and was by his side when he woke up in the hospital.

Gresham wrote:

Two days ago, I woke up and couldn’t walk or move the left side of my body. I couldn’t see and could barely talk. It took me 30 minutes to dial 911, but I finally did. I woke up in the hospital, couldn’t remember what had happened. They told me they had done an MRI and I had two strokes.

He noted that, despite numerous tests, doctors have not determined a definitive cause. A possible link to a severe case of COVID-19 he had a few weeks ago was mentioned as a potential, though unconfirmed, factor.

“Needless to say, I will be taking the next 2-4 weeks off from wrestling to recover and get cleared fully by my neurologist,” Gresham stated. He concluded his message on a positive note, stating, “I will be back soon.”

Gresham wrestled at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIV on Saturday, August 2.

He has competed for many major promotions in the United States. He is a former ROH World Champion and has also held the company’s Pure Championship and World Tag Team Championship.

His most recent contracted stint was with TNA Wrestling between December 2022 and January 2025, when his contract expired.
