Trick Williams goes face-to-face with Emergence opponent Moose

Tonight’s episode of TNA Impact, which was taped late last month at the Thomas M. Ryan Center in Kingston, Rhode Island, opened with a recap of the top headlines from last week’s episode.

Among the more notable developments was a title bout between Jacy Jayne and Ash By Elegance getting booked for this week, and Moose scoring a clean pinfall win over Trick Williams in tag action, setting him up for a championship fight at Emergence later this month.

Trick Williams came to the ring for the opening segment of the episode. The reigning TNA World Champion addressed his upcoming match against Moose: “If you keep talking trash, I might beat your ass in front of your momma,” Williams said, noting that Emergence will take place in Moose’s home state of Maryland.

After continuing to go after Moose’s family, Williams was cut off by his future opponent. While Moose grabbed a microphone, he wasn’t there to talk. He hit Williams with the mic, then started to set up for a spear.

Williams avoided the spear by rolling out of the ring, dodging a further beatdown. Moose stared down Williams as the segment came to a close.

In her first appearance since suffering an attack from Tessa Blanchard at Slammiversary, Gia Miller returned to her duties backstage. Miller took a moment to address the suspended Blanchard: “I’ve been professional. We’ve all put up with your petty bullcrap for long enough. But my patience has just run out. So whenever it is when you get to come back to work, I just want to make one thing completely clear: If you lay your hands on me one more time, I will f****** kill you.”

Switching gears, Miller interviewed Joe Hendry about his match this evening against Mustafa Ali. Hendry said that Ali hides behind his secret service and that he’ll “believe” in Hendry by the end of the night.

Backstage, Mike Santana said that he accepts Sami Callihan’s challenge to face off at Emergence. Callihan outlined last week that he wanted to fight Santana to see if he still has it as a wrestler, and said he might retire if he loses.

Eric Young interrupted the discussion between Santana and Callihan, telling Santana that he failed his “family” by losing to Trick Williams at Slammiversary.

Steve Maclin and Jake Something brawl into a double count-out

The second match of the night saw Steve Maclin put his TNA International Championship on the line against Jake Something. Frankie Kazarian was on commentary for this match, noting that he was given the blessing from TNA President Carlos Silva to be part of the broadcast team.

Something opened the match by taking down Maclin with a series of shoulder tackles. Maclin responded with a Thesz Press. Something tackled Maclin, then scored a spear into the corner for a two-count.

Maclin reversed a strike from Something for an elbow to the head, then scored an Olympic Slam for a kickout. After a series of reversals, Something and Maclin took each other out with dual clotheslines.

The two wrestlers worked back up to their feet while trading strikes. Something tried charging at Maclin with a move, but was instead thrown over the top and to the outside. Maclin joined Something at ringside, delivering a tope suicida to the floor.

Something tossed Maclin into the steel stairs at ringside. This match continued to be a brawl, with the wrestlers going back and forth with wailing blows onto the ring apron, then back to the floor. Caught up in the moment, they both didn’t realize that the referee counted them both out, causing the fight to end in a no contest.

Security peeled Maclin and Something apart from their fight, which didn’t stop even after the bell. Frustrated by the result, Maclin demanded that the match be restarted. After realizing that his wish wouldn’t get granted, he dove over the top and to the outside, taking out Something and a group of security guards.

In a backstage promo, Cedric Alexander said that he will prove that he’s “the best that he’s ever been” by beating Leon Slater to earn the X-Division Championship at Emergence.

Brookside and Lee score win over The Elegance Brand

Tag action was next, as Xia Brookside and Lei Ying Lee teamed up to face The Elegance Brand’s Heather and M. This bout came together after these two teams both got in a brawl during the post-match of last week’s Knockouts world title fight.

The babyface team of Lee and Brookside had a strong start to the match, but lost control after Heather, who wasn’t the legal Elegance Brand wrestler, attacked Lee while the referee was distracted.

After getting beaten up for minutes on end, Lee finally earned a hot tag to Brookside after a commercial break. Brookside took on both M and Heather at the same time, at one point delivering a creative neckbreaker to Heather while M took a DDT at the same time.

Brookside gave double knees in the corner to both, then got a two-count from a Russian legsweep to M. Lee got tagged back in and gave M a senton for a pin attempt. Heather jumped onto Lee’s back to break the pin, then wiped out Brookside with a Codebreaker.

Heather gave Lee a backstabber, then M tried for a roll-up pin, but Lee kicked out. Back up to her feet, Lee scored a spinning back kick, then a spinning facebuster to M for the pinfall win. A rough start to the night for the Elegance Brand before Ash challenges for the Knockouts World Title. Commentary noted that a win over Heather could possibly line up Lee and Brookside for a tag title opportunity.

In an injury report, TNA said that KC Navarro is out indefinitely with a dislocated knee.

Backstage, Santino Marella and Arianna Grace walked into their office. However, as they walked in, they saw Mance Warner and Steph De Lander “defiling” his office. “This is TNA Wrestling, not national gymnastics!” Marella said. The Director of Authorities said they’ll pay for what they did.

Backstage, Ash By Elegance was seen grilling M and Heather following their loss, saying they “dropped the ball” on the same night that she has the “biggest match of my entire career.” To focus on her match, she ordered the rest of the brand to get out of her locker room.

KC Navarro, your services are no longer needed

An “emergency” episode of the First Class Penthouse hosted by AJ Francis and KC Navarro was next. Navarro, who was on crutches, said he “re-aggravated” his knee in the Slammiversary ladder match, causing him to tear his ACL and require surgery.

In a harsh response to this announcement, Francis said that he had to focus on the “next man up” who would replace Navarro. He then brought out Rich Swann, who is returning to TNA programming.

A dejected Navarro was ordered to hold the microphone for Swann. After Swann talked about how excited he is to be part of First Class, Francis delivered some harsh news for Navarro: “Your services are no longer needed.”

“I busted my ass for 10 years to get to TNA,” Navarro said. “I earned my spot here.”

Navarro listed off numerous instances where he took a fall for Francis. He claimed that he “risked his career” by working the tag title match with Francis at Slammiversary, heading into it with an injury.

Francis said that he has been carrying Navarro’s dead weight for months, and that he’ll start succeeding again now that he’s out of the picture. “Before you showed up, I was a champion in TNA,” he said.

Francis and Swann kicked Navarro’s crutches, causing him to fall to the ground. “KC, I’m glad that you tore your ACL. Now get up off my stage before I throw you off my stage.”

Navarro limped his way backstage, closing out an incredibly humiliating write-off.

Mara Sadé made her first singles appearance since signing with TNA last month, facing off against Vicious Vicki in singles action. This was an expectedly quick win, putting away Vicki with her finisher, titled “Finish Her.” You can see the move in the clip below:

Masha Slamovich interrupts Knockouts title match

The co-main event of the night saw Ash By Elegance attempt to claim her first-ever TNA singles title, taking on Knockouts World Champion Jacy Jayne. This was a matchup Ash earned in June by winning a battle royal.

This match didn’t get out of the feeling-out process, as former champ Masha Slamovich rolled into the ring and attacked Ash just a few minutes into the bout, causing a disqualification result. This was the polar opposite to what happened last week, when Ash attacked Slamovich during her title rematch against Jayne.

A large portion of the Knockouts roster joined a post-match brawl: The IInspiration, Lei Ying Lee, Xia Brookside, the rest of the Elegance Brand, and others. The heels were sent retreating as the segment came to an end.

The broadcast noted that the bout’s result left a “huge question mark” surrounding the title picture. Santino Marella said last week that the winner of the Ash and Jayne match would face Slamovich in a title fight. But with the DQ finish, will she simply face Jayne or has she set herself up for a triple threat?

Santino Marella adds five matches to Emergence

TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella made an appearance onstage to announce numerous bouts for Emergence on August 15.

Marella brought out The Nemeths to announce what his plans are for them. While they have a contractually guaranteed rematch against The Hardys for the world tag titles, they won’t be getting it for now, Marella said. Due to their attack against The Home Town Man last week, Nic Nemeth has been suspended. Ryan Nemeth, instead of teaming alongside Nic against The Hardys at Emergence, will instead face Home Town Man in singles action.

Along with the previously booked world title bout and X-Division Championship fight, Emergence now has seven matches in total. Here’s an updated look at the lineup:

  • Steve Maclin vs. Jake Something (TNA International Championship) (No DQ, No Countout)
  • Mike Santana vs. Sami Callihan
  • Ryan Nemeth vs. The Home Town Man
  • Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Jazmyn Nyx) vs. The Elegance Brand vs. The IInspiration vs. Xia Brookside and Lei Ying Lee (TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championships) (Four-Way)
  • The Hardys vs. The Rascalz (TNA World Tag Team Championships)
  • Leon Slater vs. Cedric Alexander (TNA X-Division Championship)
  • Trick Williams vs. Moose (TNA World Championship)

The lineup for next week’s episode of Impact, heavily influenced by the upcoming Emergence card, was also revealed:

  • Leon Slater & The Hardys vs. Cedric Alexander & The Rascalz
  • Matt Cardona vs. John Skyler
  • Mike Santana vs. Eric Young
  • Frankie Kazarian hosts The King’s Speech with Steve Maclin & Jake Something
  • The IInspiration vs. Nyla Grace & Harley Hudson

Mustafa Ali defeats former champ Joe Hendry in interference-heavy battle

In the main event of the night, former TNA World Champion Joe Hendry faced off against Mustafa Ali. This matchup was booked after Hendry and Ali traded words on last week’s episode. Ali’s entire Order Four posse, including Agent Zero, was at ringside.

Hendry had the upper hand early on, causing Ali to head to the outside for a breather a few minutes into the contest. Hendry followed Ali to ringside, delivering chops, throwing his head onto the ring apron and delivering a back bodydrop before he threw Ali back into the ring.

John Skyler and Jason Hotch both distracted Hendry by threatening to attack him, giving Ali the chance to deliver a dive to the outside, finally giving him an opening to get into the fight.

Hendry reversed a Tornado DDT from Ali into a suplex after the show came back from its last commercial break, offering him the chance to start mounting a comeback. Hendry hit his fallaway slam, then started to set up for his Standing Ovation finisher.

Ali avoided a Standing Ovation, instead rolling out of the ring. Hendry chased Ali around ringside, taking out Skyler and Hotch with clotheslines in the process. Ali tried for a roll-up as they returned to the ring, but Hendry kicked out. Hendry got to his feet to score an Olympic Slam for a near fall.

Three Secret Service members of Order Four got onto the ring apron, but each was taken out by Hendry. Ali accidentally dropped another security guard in the corner after Hendry dodged a kick. Hendry came running off the ropes to reverse a move from Ali into a cutter. He then connected with his Standing Ovation, clearly coming close to a win.

Hendry was tired for a pin, but Tasha Steelz pulled the referee out of the ring to stop the count. The Great Hands got into the ring for a double-team move onto Hendry, then set up Hendry for a 450 Splash from Ali.

Hendry avoided the splash, tossed Ali into the corner turnbuckles, then handled the two Great Hands members. He scored a pop-up powerbomb and then an Attitude Adjustment to Ali, but no referee was in the ring for the count. A new ref slid into the ring, but the delayed count gave Ali enough time to kick out before three.

Hendry tried for another Standing Ovation, but had the move stopped due to Steelz holding back one of his legs. As the referee was distracted, Ali threw Hendry out of the ring, allowing Agent Zero to give him a huge kick to the head.

Hendry was rolled back into the ring, where Ali scored a 450 Splash for the pinfall win. While it took help from half a dozen talents at ringside, Ali closed out Impact with a win over one of the roster’s top names.
