  • “New Japan’s Best” challenged to answer Kyle Fletcher’s challenge — AEW Dynamite, August 13

We were welcomed to the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia, by Tony Schiavone, Nigel McGuinness, and special guest Paul Walter Hauser.

The action got started right away with Kyle Fletcher’s first defense of the TNT Championship.

TNT Championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Tomohiro Ishii

The match started with a relentless exchange of strikes and then attempts to bring the other down. Ishii was first to send Fletcher to the mat. A chop battle followed, with Ishii again getting the better of his opponent before Fletcher got the momentum.

A big near-fall came after a top-rope suplex delivered by Ishii to the champion, which would be the first of several in a competitive match. The finish came when Fletcher finally delivered the Brainbuster for the win.

  •  Fletcher then grabbed the mic and told the crowd they had witnessed history with the first defense of what will be the greatest title run in AEW. He said he was thinking of Forbidden Door and wanted New Japan to send their best pound-for-pound wrestler to face him in London.

Don Callis makes a challenge to New Japan

Backstage, echoing Fletcher, Callis spoke directly to the camera and told the management team of NJPW to have their best wrestler answer Fletcher’s challenge during Dynamite in Cincinnati next week.

Megan Bayne vs. Emily Rose

A super-quick squash win for Bayne.

Ricochet & Gates of Agony wreak havoc

A backstage vignette showed The Gates of Agony and Ricochet attacking several random guys. Ricochet stated his patience has run out and demanded they be given what they want, threatening to “dismantle everyone in their path” if their demands are not met.

The Patriarchy’s goal

In an interview with Alicia Atout, The Patriarchy addressed their attack on Christian Cage. Nick Wayne called his former mentor a hypocrite and a liar, declaring that he is already a star and that the group’s new goal is to end Cage’s career.

Ricochet vs. Juice Robinson

Ricochet picked up the victory over Juice Robinson in a match defined by constant interference.

The Gates of Agony made their presence felt early when Toa Liona appeared on the stage, creating a diversion that allowed Bishop Kaun to attack Robinson at ringside.

The chaotic finish saw Liona neutralize Austin Gunn with a Pounce over the announce table. With the referee’s attention diverted, Big Bill emerged from the crowd to hit Robinson with a big boot.

This set up Ricochet to connect with the Spirit Gun for the pinfall.

The Best Wrestler Alive

In a backstage interview, Max Caster addressed Rush lasting the full five minutes in his open challenge last week, calling it a “moral victory.” Caster then dismissed the subsequent save made by AR Fox & JetSpeed against La Faccion Ingobernable, stating that he did not want their help in the future.

FTR & Stokely vs. Joe Keys, Josh Fuller & Ryan Zukko

Stokely came out, hobbling on a crutch. He is set to face Adam Copeland on Dynamite next week.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler dominated the contest, with Hathaway only tagging in for a moment before quickly retreating after his opponents fought back.

The finish came when FTR hit the Shatter Machine on Ryan Zukko. Harwood and Wheeler then held Zukko in place, allowing Hathaway to leap from the second rope with a Spike Piledriver to get the pinfall victory.

Darby/Mox video package

A package on the history between Jon Moxley and Darby Allin ahead of Forbidden Door.

Hechicero vs. AR Fox

Hechicero defeated AR Fox by submission with both Daniel Garcia and Shane Taylor Promotions watching.

AR Fox started strong with a series of high-flying dives to the outside, but the veteran luchador took control after blocking a Swanton Bomb with his knees.

Fox later mounted a comeback and successfully hit the Swanton for a near fall. The finish came shortly after when Fox missed a 450 Splash, allowing Hechicero to hit a headscissors driver and immediately transition into a rolling submission for the victory.

Harley Cameron vignette

Harley Cameron is coming back soon.

Triangle Of Madness (Julia Hart, Skye Blue & Thekla) vs. Queen Aminata, Tay Melo & Willow Nightingale

The trio of Nightingale, Aminata, and Melo controlled the early portion of the bout.

The action broke down in the closing minutes, with each wrestler hitting a signature move. The finish came after Willow Nightingale neutralized Thekla with a Pounce. The numbers advantage allowed Hart and Blue to connect with a double-team spinning Rock Bottom on Tay Melo, giving Skye Blue the pinfall victory for her team.

FTR and Stokely aren’t afraid

FTR and Stokely Hathaway gave a backstage promo. Hathaway credited Adam Copeland for creating his current persona and vowed to defeat him. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood then declared their intention to reclaim the AEW World Tag Team Championship, stating they would go through “Brodido” and The Hurt Syndicate.

Platinum Max Caster’s open challenge — Katsuyori Shibata

AEW Trios Champion Katsuyori Shibata answered Max Caster’s open challenge and won in a dominant, one-sided match. Shibata controlled the entire contest, finishing Caster in short order with a rear-naked choke, followed by the PK for the victory.

After the match, Shibata helped Caster to his feet and the two shook hands. The show of sportsmanship was interrupted by La Faccion Ingobernable, who attacked both men. JetSpeed ran to the ring armed with weapons to make the save and clear LFI from the ring. This set the table for the main event.

Adam Page & JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) vs. La Faccion Ingobernable (Dralistico, Rush & The Beast Mortos)

In the main event, AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page teamed with JetSpeed to defeat La Faccion Ingobernable in an action-packed six-man tag team match.

The contest was a chaotic affair from the start, with momentum shifting between both teams. The final minutes saw a flurry of signature moves from all six men, including numerous dives to the outside that left the ringside area littered with competitors.

The finish came when Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight neutralized Rush and The Beast Mortos with stereo dives to the floor. This isolated Dralistico in the ring, allowing Hangman Page to connect with the Buckshot Lariat to secure the pinfall victory.
