Three big matchups have been confirmed for a go-home episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown before Clash in Paris.
An August 29 episode of Smackdown from the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France, just two days before WWE delivers Clash In Paris, had three bouts confirmed for it this evening.
In the sole singles contest announced for the card thus far, WWE United States Champion Solo Sikoa will look to defend his title against Sami Zayn.
Zayn has eyed a shot at Sikoa’s title ever since he earned a clean pinfall win against the MFT faction leader earlier this month in Montreal. After weeks of build, a title meeting between the two will finally happen in just a week’s time.
Sikoa has defended his title twice since first becoming champ in June, previously overcoming Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu.
The other title fight booked for the card this week sees WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair face The Secret Hervice’s Alba Fyre and Piper Niven.
The Chelsea Green-led Secret Hervice are being given a shot at the tag titles just a week after Niven scored a pinfall victory against Flair, albeit in a dusty finish. The enemies-to-somewhat-friends team of Bliss and Flair will be putting their belts on the line for a second time since starting their reign at Summerslam.
Next opponents for current WWE Tag Team Champions, The Wyatt Sicks, will be determined on Friday when The Street Profits take on Melo Don’t Miz (Carmelo Hayes and The Miz).
Both teams have been on the rise as of late: The Street Profits got past both #DIY and the duo of JC Mateo and Tama Tonga in recent weeks, meanwhile, Melo Don’t Miz have beaten Fraxiom and The Motor City Machine Guns. Win streaks will collide next week in France.
Here’s a look at everything announced:
- Solo Sikoa vs. Sami Zayn (WWE United States Championship)
- Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford vs. Carmelo Hayes & The Miz (WWE Tag Team Championships #1 Contendership Match)
- Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair vs. Alba Fyre & Piper Niven (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships)
