Three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion Francesco Akira has suffered a setback.

Akira fractured his right wrist last weekend while appearing at RevPro’s 13th Anniversary card in London, England, NJPW announced on Wednesday. At the event, Akira went eight minutes against TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater, losing in the end.

Shortly after the announcement, a post on social media from Akira confirmed his injury and noted that his absence will be extended due to the need for surgery.

“Never wanted to make this post but wanna address the news… unfortunately on my match on Friday in RevPro I suffered a broken wrist that will require that I go under surgery. Obviously it’s never easy to be hurt but accidents happen, I won’t let this stop me, instead I will focus on getting back healthy quickly. I launched my website online (link in bio) so if you wanna grab one of my new t-shirt and support me you can but all the messages I’m receiving gives me a lot of love already. Thank you very much, the time of recovery starts now!”

Akira has been a major part of NJPW’s junior division since 2022, when he first joined the promotion. He has been a successful part of NJPW’s tag divisions, going on numerous title reigns alongside TJP as part of the duo “Catch 22.”

The 25-year-old was recently seen on tours with CMLL in Mexico, working seven shows for the promotion in June, including a Fantastica Mania lineup in collaboration with AEW and NJPW.
