Athena’s reign as ROH Women’s World Champion will cross past the 1,000-day mark.
A win on Friday night against Mina Shirakawa all but guaranteed that Athena will extend her run as champ past the remarkable figure in just under a week’s time. Athena’s win headlined Death Before Dishonor, which went down at the legendary 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, this weekend.
While Shirakawa inched close to a win in their 25-minute battle, finding near falls and tempting the champ to submit with tight grappling holds, she wasn’t able to do enough to take down Athena.
Athena eventually caught Shirakawa with a straightjacket powerbomb, then followed up the move with her O-Face finisher off the top rope, securing a pinfall win.
Athena has held ROH’s top women’s title since late 2022 and has defended the belt more than 30 times over the past few years.
Friday saw Shirakawa come back for the first time since suffering an injury during the All In Women’s Casino Gauntlet last month. She called for a title shot against Athena in recent weeks, citing the need for revenge after she caused her injury during the gauntlet in Texas.
A large amount of the buzz emerging from Friday’s card came from the co-main event, where ROH World Champion Bandido went an astounding 36 minutes to prevail against fellow Mexican talent Hechicero.
Bandido and Hechicero kept the energy high throughout their battle, despite the match going deeper than even most main events. The physical contest, which included a suplex onto the top of a barricade from Bandido at one point, saw the champ retain with an impressive sequence.
After Bandido scored his Revolution Fly off the top rope, he found some resistance from Hechicero when trying for his 21-Plex finisher. Bandido emerged on top following a brief struggle between the two, scoring a deadlift German Suplex and bridging it into a pin attempt for the win.
Bandido’s recent title reign in ROH has become synonymous with big-time performances, and Friday proved to be no exception. In June, a 19-minute battle against Mascara Dorada stood out as a high-quality Arena Mexico main event clash. A month later, Bandido went 29 minutes against Konosuke Takeshita in the main event of Supercard of Honor, another stellar performance.
A win on Sunday means that Bandido’s current ROH title reign will outlast his 152-day run back in 2021, a reign which came to an abrupt end due to a COVID-19 infection, which pulled him from a card on short notice.
It was a busy night for Sammy Guevara, who appeared in two separate title matchups.
With former tag partner Dustin Rhodes out due to a recent double knee replacement surgery, Guevara debuted his new tag partner, Rush, in a match where he attempted to regain the vacant ROH tag titles against The Outrunners. The unexpected pairing worked out, stringing together a Bull’s Horns from Rush and a Swanton Bomb from Guevara to earn a pinfall win in 13 minutes.
Guevara’s title matchup earlier in the night, where he teamed up with Marshall and Ross von Erich to face Shane Taylor Promotions for the vacant six-man belts, wasn’t as successful. It was instead the team of Taylor, Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean who walked away with the titles after a pinfall win.
The win kicked off Taylor’s second-ever run with the ROH six-man tag titles, although his first time doing so alongside Bravo and Dean. The Von Erichs, who previously held the six-man gold alongside Rhodes, had a reign that lasted nearly 400 days.
After Guevara found success with Rush later in the night, it became clear that his relationship with the Von Erichs had soured, attacking the duo.

Queen Aminata got one step closer to becoming the first-ever ROH Women’s Pure Champion on Friday night, scoring a pinfall win over Taya Valkyrie to advance past the quarter-finals of a tournament to crown the champ.
