Je’Von Evans vs. Josh Briggs

The show kicks off with Je’Von Evans entering the ring and Josh Briggs coming down and right into their match. Evans hit a Frog Splash immediately and generated a two-count.

Briggs got the advantage and received a fair amount of heat from the audience. Evans bounced off the top rope into a ‘rana, but moments later, she was yanked off the apron and landed on the edge with his face.

Evans avoided a choke slam on the desk, leaped to the apron, and returned with a huge dive to Briggs over the desk.

Evans countered a powerslam attempt into a stunner and flew all over the ring, from one big move to the next. The big spot saw Evans with a flipping coast-to-coast across the ring. Briggs grabbed a chair, and it was knocked out of his hands as Evans went for the OsCutter from the top, but was struck by a chain in the back of the head as the referee’s back was turned.

WINNER: Josh Briggs

This was a great start to the show, and Evans looked terrific, going all out for this one. Briggs got a lot of heat from the crowd, and they have demonstrated great chemistry.

Ava is with Oba Femi and Ricky Saints backstage, and the two will appear on ‘The Grayson Waller Effect’ next Tuesday at Homecoming. Trick Williams walked in and asked Ava if everything they had discussed had been approved. He added he still has his sights on Femi.

The Biggest Tag Match at Homecoming

DIY is back and gush over NXT and their history on the brand. Trick Williams interrupts, stating that DIY is jealous that “your NXT crew can’t hang with my NXT crew”.

Williams said, unlike last week, he isn’t alone, and Carmelo Hayes returns.

Hayes addresses Williams that they’re just “squatting” in the house they built and renovated, and the rent is due. Williams proclaims, “This is my house.” Ciampa intervenes, and Hayes takes issue with DIY. Gargano proposes that the people want to see the “biggest tag match in NXT history” at Homecoming.

Lainey Reid vs. Faby Apache in the #1 Contender Tournament

Natalya is shown in the crowd to promote he match with Apache at Worlds Collide this Friday.

Apache hit a cannonball off the apron to the floor. Reid ran into a boot and a bridging German suplex. Apache climbed to the top as Natalya hopped the barricade, distracting Apache, who missed the Swanton, and Reid won with a running knee.

WINNER: Lainey Reid

Nothing wrong with the match for the short amount they had, giving each some near-falls, working Natalya into the finish, and pushing the upset win by Reid.

Reid advances to face Candice LeRae, and the winner meets Sol Ruca for the Speed Championship at No Mercy on September 27.

Sol Ruca is with Zaria, joking about how Ruca will wear three belts after they win the #1 contender’s match tonight and go for the WWE women’s tag titles. Hank & Tank walked in, and both teams are going for the tag belts as Hank & Tank have a rematch with DarkState.

Glamour Hell

A video with Blake Monroe in the bathtub, and she isn’t done with Jordynne Grace, who made her bleed last week. She wasn’t broken but awakened, and now “The Glamour has death” and presents a much darker version of Monroe, who promises to see Grace “in hell”.

Osiris Griffin & Dion Lennox vs. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger for the NXT Tag Team Titles

Hank & Tank hit their finisher on Griffin immediately, but Lennox saved. Hank & Tank hit stereo dives to the floor as they went to break.

Tank hit a Swanton on Lennox, but he kicked out at two. They set up for their finisher again, but Saquon Shugars and Cutler James got involved.

James said that Joe Hendry wasn’t coming to save them, which prompted Hendry’s music to start, and he appeared. Hendry chased James into the ring and was stopped by the referee. Hank used an O’Connor roll on Lennox, but behind the referee’s back, Griffin reversed it, allowing Lennox to grab the jeans for the cover.

WINNER: Osiris Griffin & Dion Lennox

The NXT Anonymous account caught Ethan Page speaking with Myles Borne and replaying footage of his loss to Lexis King and told him that champions only think about themselves, or else he’ll continue to be a loser.

In the locker room, Lexis King reacted to Page’s advice and mocked Borne for losing their blindfold match. Borne entered with a chair and flipped off the lights, and when they came back on, King was on the ground, and we are not done yet with these two. I’m giddy.

Ethan Page vs. Tavion Heights in a Flag Match

Heights was already at an advantage compared to Heatwave as the audience started chanting for the U.S.A., and not Canada. They also had “USA” signs for those facing he hard camera.

Heights tackled Page off the apron, and they crashed on the floor. Booker called this a “tune-up” match for Page before Worlds Collide.

Page landed a headbutt, but Heights responded with a big lariat as both went down. Heights was knocked off the turnbuckle, reaching for his flag, and was knocked into the steps. Page climbed for his flag, but Heights tried to stop him, and Page crotched himself on the top rope. Heights leaped to the top and suplexed Page off the turnbuckle.

With Page down, Height climbed and secured the American flag and waved it while draping the Canadian flag over Page.

Booker proclaimed, “America”.

Tyler Breeze returned and took a selfie next to the fallen Ethan Page.

Kneel to the Real Deal

The second part of Lola Vice’s life story aired and spoke about being shy while attending Catholic school. She appeared at her father’s Taekwondo school as a surprise.

Then, we meet FRANK LOUREDA, who needs to be this woman’s manager yesterday.

Vice said her whole family has black belts. She explained the significance of her dance and proving people wrong who thought she was just a “pretty face.”

Frank yelled, “The Real Deal, Kneel to Lola.”

Jacy Jayne gave a pep talk to Fallon Henley & Jazmyn Nyx to win tonight’s #1 contender’s match, and then, they will have all the gold and power.

A commercial for next week’s NXT Homecoming with the following advertised:
*NXT North American Championship: Ethan Page © vs. Tyler Breeze
*DIY vs. Trick Williams & Carmelo Hayes
*The Grayson Waller Effect feat. Oba Femi and Ricky Saints

They also indicated Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will appear and teased Paul Levesque and William Regal, among other appearances.

Fallon Henley & Jazmyn Nyx vs. Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley vs. Sol Ruca & Zaria in a #1 Contender’s Elimination Match

Henley landed a high cross to Niko Vance on the floor, the Zaria leaped off the apron with a spear to Shawn Spears. The dives concluded with Sol Ruca hitting a Tornillo off the top to the floor as they went to commercial.

Nyx and Jacy Jayne grabbed Zaria on the floor and threw her into the steps.

Dame lifted Nyx on her shoulders as Ruca came off the top with a blockbuster to Nyx.

Zaria and Ruca hit double spears to Nyx & Henley, and then, Ruca went for the Sol Snatcher on Paxley, and the idea was that Henley was to push Zaria into the move as Ruca hit her partner by mistake. Zaria was hit by the Sol Snatcher, and Nyx pinned her for the first elimination.

The Culling tried to double-team Nyx, but Henley pulled Dame to the floor. Jacy Jayne struck Paxley with a Rolling Encore from the floor, but Paxley kicked out from a roll-up.

Paxley and Dame double-teamed Henley, and Dame pinned her with a Sky High.

WINNERS: Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley

There was a lot of stuff that missed as the pace was fast and furious, and it was all over the place; however, the audience was really into the match and all the near-falls during the last portion of the match. It was a fun match with a lot of ambitious ideas, some hit and some didn’t.

Three Former NXT Champions Arrive

Jacy Jayne threw a fit against Henley and Nyx and said they embarrassed her.

It cut to a vehicle pulling up in the parking lot as they went to break with a tease of another surprise appearance.

Fatal Influence is still in the ring, with Jayne stating she is sick of carrying this group on her back. Jayne didn’t get to this spot with help from anyone and doesn’t need the respect or applause from the fans. She proclaims herself the greatest NXT Women’s Champion of all time.

Stephanie Vaquer returns and will give credit to Jayne for beating her for the Women’s Championship. However, she had two titles at the same time. Jayne mentions there are three of them and only one of her.

Tiffany Stratton walks out next and disagrees with Jayne’s assessment. Stratton points out she’s beaten Fallon Henley before.

Rhea Ripley is the last one out and sets up the six-woman tag for Homecoming. They stormed the ring and sent Fatal Influence to the floor.

Final Thoughts:

It was a formula NXT excels with when it comes to surprises spread out throughout the show, but to hype next week’s episode.

They did an effective job making next week’s show feel important and teasing more surprises for next week, which I would imagine there will be plenty.

The best match on the show was the opener between Je’Von Evans and Josh Briggs, and nothing approached the level those two achieved in the first segment.

The Blake Monroe vignette was interesting and adds some new wrinkles to that character, and it goes into a darker direction for a rematch with Jordynne Grace.

The main event elimination match did generate a lot of enthusiasm from the audience, and there were some creative spots in the match, but it was a lot of people navigating each other, and it felt like the match was all over the place at times. The key stuff hit and sets up Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley going for the Women’s Tag Titles held by Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair.
