Mark Shapiro hopes Wrestlepalooza can become annual franchise for WWE, thinks it could be like ‘Wrestlemania or Summerslam’

TKO Group Holdings President Mark Shapiro hopes that WWE’s newest Premium Live Event (PLE) could become one of the brand’s top events going forward.

WWE is expected to present a big lineup on September 20, when they kick off a multi-year PLE broadcast deal with ESPN at Wrestlepalooza. The event, set for the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, will be the first of its kind, as WWE has not previously used the title for other events.

Due to the event being WWE’s first since domestically moving from NBCUniversal’s Peacock to ESPN for PLEs, it’s not surprising that the lineup will be full of big names. However, per recent comments from TKO’s Shapiro, it sounds as though they hope to keep the event as a large-scale presentation even beyond 2025.

Not only does Shapiro hope Wrestlepalooza can become an annual stop for the company, but he believes it could eventually be one of the biggest events of the year, comparable to Wrestlemania or Summerslam.

“Hopefully, Wrestlepalooza is a winner and we could bring that back annually, because that could just be a marketing bonanza for us, if we do that right,” Shapiro explained at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference this week. “Triple H is spending night and day creatively around making that what we think it could be, which is another Wrestlemania or another Summerslam. Those two stand out above the rest, Royal Rumble is right beneath that, and we think Wrestlepalooza could get into that quadrant.”

Many top stars are set to face off at Wrestlepalooza. The card will feature John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, CM Punk & the returning AJ Lee vs. Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, and it has been confirmed that Cody Rhodes will also be involved in the card, in some capacity.
