AEW kicked off a marathon day of wrestling with a live televised special ahead of its All Out pay-per-view.
The early Toronto crowd and viewers on TNT and HBO Max saw a series of matches under the ‘Saturday Tailgate Brawl’ banner.
The presentation marked a change from the company’s usual ‘Zero Hour’ format, where a live pre-show was shown on AEW’s YouTube and other social channels.
A pre-taped Zero Hour show did stream at 2.00 pm ET on YouTube. This was largely a rundown of the All Out card presented by Renee Paquette, RJ City, and Bryan Danielson.
Notable happenings included Daniel Garcia fully embracing his new heel role, aligned with the Death Riders. Garcia, accompanied by Marina Shafir, faced Katsuyori Shibata.
Shafir distracted the referee as Garcia tapped out to a rear-naked choke. Garcia then hit a Gotch-style piledriver and a stomp to Shibata’s head for the win.
The main event of the pre-show was an eight-woman tornado tag match pitting Megan Bayne, Penelope Ford, Julia Hart & Skye Blue against Harley Cameron, Mina Shirakawa, Queen Aminata & Willow Nightingale.
The fun brawl featured tailgate-themed weapons, including folding chairs, barbecue sets, cooler boxes, and punch bowls. A staple gun also came into play (because what tailgate party is complete without a stapler?)
Willow Nightingale got the pin for her team as the Scotiabank Arena crowd seemed fully warmed up for the pay-per-view.
Match results:
- The Opps (Powerhouse Hobbs & Samoa Joe) def. The WorkHorsemen (Anthony Henry & JD Drake)
- Daniel Garcia def. Katsuyori Shibata
- Trios match: Hologram, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly def. The Frat House (Griff Garrison, Cole Karter & Preston Vance)
- 8-Woman Tornado Tailgate Brawl: Harley Cameron, Mina Shirakawa, Queen Aminata & Willow Nightingale def. Megan Bayne, Penelope Ford & Sisters Of Sin (Julia Hart & Skye Blue)
