Fresh off a main roster appearance on SmackDown, Je’Von Evans defeated Josh Briggs in the opening match of Saturday’s NXT No Mercy PLE.

The match centered on the significant size advantage of Briggs against the speed of Evans.

Briggs used his power to control large portions of the contest, throwing Evans around the ring and into the ringside barricade. Evans fought back with high-flying moves, including a dive to the outside and a cross-ring frog splash that resulted in a two-count.

A key moment came when Briggs hit a massive lariat for what appeared to be the win, but Evans managed to get his foot on the bottom rope to break the pinfall attempt.

The finish saw Briggs attempt a chokeslam from the top turnbuckle, but Evans countered it into a cutter. Evans then ascended to the top rope and hit another frog splash to secure the victory.
