Next week’s edition of NXT is undergoing a name change.
Initially announced as “Invasion”, the NXT vs. TNA themed show is now being promoted as “Showdown”.
WrestleVotes was the first to report the change, with WWE removing references to “Invasion” from its site and other promotional material, referring to the show as “next week’s special event”.
It is believed that the reason for the change occurred after backlash over staging an event called “Invasion” on October 7, two years to the date of Hamas’ deadly attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people, as noted by The Jewish Chronicle.
It was also cited that the red “V” in Invasion “unintentionally resembles the downward-facing red triangle used as a Hamas symbol.”
During the opening segment of Tuesday’s episode, Santino Marella explained, “This isn’t an invasion” and referred to it as “a showdown”.
