Santos Escobar’s contract with WWE is set to expire imminently.

It appears that Escobar (Jorge Bolly) will become a free agent after today, according to a report by Sean Ross Sapp at Fightful.

The outlet states that Escobar’s deal will expire after Monday and that the company attempted to re-sign the performer but was unsuccessful, adding that it appeared to be a creative issue and not about money, as he was reportedly offered a raise.

Escobar, 41, previously worked in CMLL and AAA and received U.S. exposure as “King Cuerno” on Lucha Underground over a decade ago.

He signed with WWE in the summer of 2019 and joined the NXT roster as El Hijo del Fantasma before unmasking and going by his new persona. He became NXT Cruiserweight Champion during the pandemic when Jordan Devlin could not travel. The two had a match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in April 2021 to determine the undisputed champion, which Escobar won. He held the title for nearly a year, losing it to KUSHIDA right after Stand & Deliver.

He was called to the main roster in the fall of 2022 with his stablemates from NXT, Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro, while Elektra Lopez was not brought up.

He had a feud with Rey Mysterio after they had joined together as part of the Latino World Order and formed a new group with Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo.

Escobar has not wrestled since July at a live event in Monterrey, Mexico.
