Aussie Rules

Monday Night Raw from Dallas kicked off with Roman Reigns coming to the ring, but all he could get out was his “acknowledge me” bit before he was interrupted by Bronson Reed and Paul Heyman. The representatives from The Vision pointed out that no one in Roman’s family had ever been stretchered out after a match, yet Roman suffered that fate at Clash in Paris. Reigns responded, saying he wanted to fight now, but Heyman stopped him.

The heels challenged Reigns to an Australian Street Fight, and he accepted. Heyman and Reed went to leave, and Roman called them “bitches” and then a brawl ensued. Security intervened, but Roman was able to hit Reed with two Superman Punches as the segment ended.

Backstage, Asuka was screaming at Adam Pearce that they wanted Iyo Sky tonight. Pearce said he needed a drink and would look into it. Kairi Sane appeared, asking what was going on. Asuka revealed that it was Sane facing Sky tonight, and she slapped Kairi, saying that she had better win.

Becky Lynch vs. Maxxine Dupri

The first match of the night saw The Man Becky Lynch, taking on Maxxine Dupri. The story here was Becky having no respect for Maxxine and underestimating her. Early on, Maxxine seemed to rock Becky with a punch that landed, seemingly shocking Maxxine herself. After that, Maxxine went for a dropkick that appeared to hit Becky in the hips. Wade Barrett said that the dropkick hit “a target,” but “not the target.”

After the commercial break, Dupri got a near fall after a clunky-looking powerbomb. The crowd then got behind Maxxine as she continued to get very close two-counts. Becky then took Maxxine to the outside, slamming her into the announce table and the ring steps. Becky then played to the crowd, losing track of the referee’s count. The referee also counted quickly once Maxxine rolled back into the ring, which was explained as payback for Becky getting in the ref’s face. The crowd really made this match, and kudos to both performers for sticking with it despite the early mistakes.

Backstage, Roman Reigns greeted The Usos, and Reigns said he didn’t want Jey’s help as he should focus on his goals. Reigns noted that CM Punk was scheduled for the top of the hour and not Jey. Jey stormed off, and Roman said to Jimmy, “You know I see everything, right? What’s his problem with taking advice from me?”

Lyra Valkyria vs. Roxanne Perez

Before heading to the ring, Bayley approached Valkyria, asking if she could be in her corner, and Valkyria agreed. Is she as insane as Bayley at this point? Roxanne focused her offense on Lyra’s left arm as the match went to commercial break. Lyra then began her comeback, but had trouble due to the damage to her arm. Raquel Rodriguez then jumped on the apron, distracting the referee. Bayley then interjected herself and got taken out by Raquel, and Lyra took out Raquel. Roxanne hit a tornado DDT to the outside, followed by Pop Rox for the win. After the match, Bayley picked Lyra up by her hair and dragged her to the back, saying they had to kick their asses.

A promo package aired highlighting the history between John Cena and AJ Styles. Styles was interviewed backstage after and was interrupted by The Judgment Day. Styles challenged them to a Six-Man match later tonight with himself, Dragon Lee, and (as revealed just a bit later) Penta. Elsewhere backstage, CM Punk walked by Rusev, arguing with Adam Pearce. Also, during this cavalcade of backstage segments, Bayley and Lyra were shown attacking Roxanne and Raquel.

CM Punk, LA Knight, and The Usos

CM Punk came out and talked about promising Cody Rhodes not to get involved with his match against Seth Rollins at Crown Jewel. Punk spoke about having Rollins’ number, and he would reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship. LA Knight then marched down the ring and commended Punk on being a husband, but called him a “trash champion”. Knight said he was the last one to pin Seth Rollins, and with that, Jey Uso interrupted, saying he never got a rematch and was next in line.

Jimmy Uso marched down to the ring, and as Knight was distracted, Jey superkicked Knight. Punk said that he liked Jey Uso, but he didn’t like “Little Roman”. Punk then shoved Jimmy to take a shot at Je,y and Jimmy responded with a superkick on Punk. It was later announced that the four would be in a tag match later tonight.

Iyo Sky vs. Kairi Sane

A promo package aired featuring Iyo Sky discussing her history with Asuka. Iyo said that Asuka was not ready for Iyo.

During the commercial break, Kairi nailed Iyo with an Alabama Slam right on the corner of the ring apron in a scary-looking spot. Sane dominated for a bit until finally Sky started her comeback. Kairi recovered and went for the Insane Elbow, but was met with Iyo’s feet to her face. Sky went for her moonsault, but Asuka got involved, ultimately helping Sane win by holding Sane’s hands during the pinfall. After the match, Sane and Asuka attacked Sky as the crowd chanted for Rhea, who was already in Australia doing press.

Part two of the history of Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins aired. After that, Seth Rollins was staring at his watch again backstage as Becky Lynch went on a rant about Maxxine Dupri and said she wasn’t going to Perth.

Rollins asked Heyman what would happen if he lost to Cody on Saturday, and Heyman said he would lose the vision and everything they had built since WrestleMania. Heyman continued that he would have to consider why he picked Rollins over Reigns.

Jey Uso was having a caniption in the back, yelling at Jimmy in front of Roman. Reigns told Jimmy that to help Jey, he had to get out of his way.

Six-Man Tag Match

Next up was The Judgment Day taking on AJ Styles, Dragon Lee, and Penta. Before the match, AJ Styles went to cut a promo but was interrupted by Judgment Day’s music. This match quickly blew through two commercial breaks with Judgment Day in control.

Things finally turned around as Dragon Lee hit the Dragon Bomb and got the hot tag to Penta. Things then broke down with bodies flying all about. Rusev then appeared and went after Dom, but was taken out by Penta. As Dominik retreated through the crowd, Styles hit the Styles Clash on JD McDonagh for the win. Styles finally got to cut his promo after the match and said that he and Cena didn’t need a story, and their match would “kick ass.”

Next week from Perth:

  • Bayley & Lyra Valkyria vs. Roxanne Perez & Raquel Rodriguez
  • Intercontinental Championship: Dominik Mysterio vs. Penta

Main Event

The main event of the evening was The Usos taking on CM Punk and LA Knight, with The Usos cheating to gain an advantage early in the match. This match dragged into an overrun with Knight hitting a BFT on Jimmy and Punk hitting the GTS on Jey. LA Knight tagged himself in and scored the pinfall, much to Punk’s chagrin. This match felt somehow both rushed and long at the same time, with the show going off the air six minutes after 10:30. One has to wonder if Chris Park was backstage apologizing profusely for going over.
