Santos Escobar is no longer listed as an active member of the WWE roster.
Escobar, a 41-year-old talent who has led the Legado del Fantasma faction in recent years, was moved to the “Alumni” section on WWE.com’s official roster list sometime this week. Archived versions of the site show that he was previously listed as a member of the Smackdown roster.
The change comes amid a recent report from Fightful Select that Escobar was on his way out with the company. Per the report, Escobar’s contract was set to expire on Monday night, with no indications that he was set to reach a new deal
Fightful’s report noted that “creative dissatisfaction” was a driving force in the departure of Escobar, and that it’s possible he could appear at New York Comic Con this weekend.
Escobar signed with WWE back in 2019, joining the promotion following years of experience in Mexico, working for both AAA and CMLL at times in his career. He also briefly wrestled for TNA and played the role of King Cuerno on Lucha Underground.
By June 2020, Escobar formed Legado del Fantasma alongside Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro. After a falling out with Wilde and Del Toro, Escobar kept operating alongside Angel and Berto, who remain a part of the Smackdown tag division as Los Garza.
Escobar has not been utilized on TV as of late. His last broadcast match dates back to June, when he worked a six-man tag at WWE x AAA Worlds Collide Los Angeles.
