Late wrestling legend Stu Hart has been honored in Calgary, Alberta.
A bridge on Highway 8 in Calgary will now be known as the Stu Hart Memorial Bridge, as revealed at a ceremony earlier this week.
Hart, who co-founded Stampede Wrestling, trained Bret and Owen Hart at “The Dungeon” along with countless others who went on to become legends in their own right, and also had his own career as a wrestler, is considered a highly influential name not just in Canadian wrestling, but in the scene as a whole.
Hart was awarded the Order of Canada, the country’s second-highest civilian honor, due to his significant involvement in philanthropy. He passed away in 2003 at 88 years old due to a stroke.
Bret Hart said that a bridge represents what Stu did for many people.
“In a lot of ways, it’s very symbolic for my father to be honoured with a bridge, because he was a bridge in many ways to so many people and so many things, from wrestling to just his roots in Canada, and his special pride with his wrestling product,” Bret said, per Global News.
The bridge is notably located near the famous Hart Dungeon.
