Kyle Fletcher defeated Mark Briscoe to retain the AEW TNT Championship at Saturday’s WrestleDream PPV.
Briscoe was aggressive early, taking the action to the floor and using a chair as a launchpad for a somersault dive through the ropes. Fletcher stopped Briscoe’s momentum by dodging an attempted blockbuster off the apron, causing Briscoe to crash to the floor. Fletcher then powerbombed Briscoe onto the side of the steel ring steps.
Back in the ring, Fletcher hit a Michinoku Driver and later a big powerbomb for two-counts. The match escalated when Briscoe countered a brainbuster on the apron, instead hitting Fletcher with a Jay Driller on the edge of the ring.
Briscoe followed up with three consecutive Froggy Bows: one while Fletcher was draped on the ropes, a second onto a standing Fletcher on the floor, and a third in the center of the ring. The final Froggy Bow resulted in a strong near fall that the crowd reacted to heavily.
Moments later, Briscoe hit a traditional Jay Driller, and the fans counted along with the pin attempt. Fletcher, however, managed to get his index finger on the bottom rope to break the count, drawing “this is awesome” chants.
For the finish, Fletcher grabbed the referee, shoved Briscoe toward the official, and delivered a low blow. He immediately hit a brainbuster, but Briscoe kicked out. Fletcher then launched Briscoe into the corner and successfully hit an avalanche brainbuster from the top turnbuckle for the pinfall victory.
After the match, El Clon appeared on the stage to celebrate with Fletcher and Don Callis. Several members of The Conglomeration, including Orange Cassidy and Willow Nightingale, came to ringside to check on Briscoe.
