Jim Ross is feeling much better and planning his return to commentary.
Ross, 73, has largely been out of the spotlight in 2025 while dealing with health issues. He notably underwent a successful colon cancer surgery in May, and was officially cancer-free a month later.
Ross, who has recently been absent from his “Grilling JR” podcast, returned this week with a positive update.
“I’m better today than I’ve been in a long time,” Ross said. “I feel good. Glad to be back on the air with you guys.”
He expanded on his current status later on the podcast:
“Life is good,” Ross said. “I’m healthy. I had a cardiologist appointment yesterday, he’s pleased with what he saw so far. I haven’t had any issues with my heart, but just a matter of checking the boxes and making sure everything’s cool. Life is good, man. Life is good. I’m alive. A few months ago at this time, I wasn’t so sure about the outcome. But here I am, and here we are, and we’re going to have a great year of podcasting, I can promise you.”
While not specifying exactly when he will appear, Ross mentioned that he will be returning to AEW commentary soon.
“Absolutely, that’s the plan. In the next few weeks [I’ll be back]. I’m excited about that opportunity.”
Ross signed a new contract with AEW earlier this year, a deal which will run until August 2026. He has made appearances as part of two pay-per-view cards over the course of the summer, calling bouts at Forbidden Door and All In: Texas.
