The “C2” is officially back next week.
AEW’s Continental Classic will make its return next Wednesday, kicking off the promotion’s third-annual run of the tournament. The first matches in the tournament will take place as part of a “Thanksgiving Eve” episode of AEW Dynamite from The Pinnacle in Nashville, Tennessee.
Past iterations of the Continental Classic have seen a total of 12 wrestlers compete in two Round Robin-style Blocks. The wrestlers who sit atop the two groups after action wraps up meet in the grand finals, which have previously taken place at AEW’s Worlds End pay-per-view in late December.
Last year saw Kazuchika Okada win the tournament, overcoming Will Ospreay in the finals. He’s likely to return this year and attempt to go two-for-two and defend his Continental title.
The first-ever tournament winner, Eddie Kingston, could potentially also compete now that he’s back from injury.
The full lineup for the tournament has not yet been revealed, but it will likely emerge in the coming days.
