The C2 Begins

AEW Dynamite kicked off with the first match of the Continental Classic, with two members of the Don Callis Family squaring off, Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada taking on former TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher. Before the match began, the Continental Championship was shown for the first time since its unification, and Okada was wearing the International title as the announce team explained that Okada would lose the Unified title if he didn’t win the tournament. Early in the match, Okada pushed referee Rick Knox with his foot to knock Kyle Fletcher off the top rope as the show went to commercial break.

After the break, Fletcher returned the favor, knocking Okada down using Knox as well. It was noted that Fletcher was one of only two men who had been able to defeat Okada in singles action in AEW. Okada then began targeting Fletcher’s neck as the two exchanged big maneuvers. At this point, Justin Roberts announced that 15 minutes had elapsed of the allowed 20. This sent things into a frenzy as they continued with quick pinfall attempts until Fletcher was able to roll up Okada for the win. After the match, the two men shook hands, and Don Callis raised both their hands.

Backstage, Lexi Nair interviewed Kenny Omega and asked if he had officially reunited with the Young Bucks. Kenny said he needed to think more about where they stood, but he felt the Bucks might deserve a second chance. Matt and Nick then emerged from Omega’s locker room.

Footage was shown from after Full Gear with Mark Briscoe speaking about his TNT title win in relation of losing his brother Jay.

Women’s Tag Team Tournament

Next up was a Semifinal match in the Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament with the Sisters of Sin, Skye Blue and Julia Hart, taking on the Babes of Wrath, Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale.

Things went back and forth early on, with the Sisters of Sin getting the heat on Harley Cameron until she made the hot tag to Nighingale. At one point, Julia Hart went for her Moonsault and landed on her feet, where she seemed to expect Harley to move, but she didn’t. They recovered quickly and continued. Willow then hit the Babe with the Powerbomb for the win.

The Opps Celebration

Before Samoa Joe could start talking, Swerve Strickland arrived with a stapler gun in hand and a chain around his neck. He was promptly joined by Hangman, also donning a chain. Joe directed Shibata to go get the “scrubs,” and the Opps Dojo men appeared and surrounded the ring. Joe then threw to a video package showing how Hook had never really left The Opps.

Joe then introduced Hook, who insulted the crowd and called himself the greatest second-generation wrestler ever. This brought out Swerve and Hangman, who started brawling with the Opps Dojo. Hangman and Swerve used their chains to hang two members of the Dojo as the segment ended.

C2 Blue League Match

The next match was the first in the Blue League with the Death Riders’ Jon Moxley taking on CMLL’s Mascara Dorada. Early in the match, Moxley took a page out of Dorada’s playbook, hitting a dive onto his opponent on the outside.

After a commercial break, Dorada had gained control after a few high-flying moves. Dorada applied the Juji Gatame as the crowd exploded with the potential of another tap. Dorada scored a handful of near falls as Tony Schiavone stated that the Death Riders could not come to Moxley’s aid in the Continental Classic tournament. Dorada then went for a 450 splash but was caught in a chokehold and passed out, giving Mox the win.

After the match, Marina Shafir joined Mox in the ring, which brought out Timeless Toni Storm. Storm said that she really liked “Johnny,” but she operated with love, whereas he and Shafir operated in hate. Storm then announced the stipulation in her match alongside Mina Shirakawa against Shafir and Megan Bayne: a Hardcore Holiday Deathmatch – taking place next Wednesday on Dynamite.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviewed AEW Women’s Champion Kris Statlander, who said she was heading into the future and wanted to know who was coming with her.

C2 Gold League Match

Next was Darby Allin taking on Kevin Knight in the Gold League of the Continental Classic. This was fast and furious, as one might imagine, with both faces pulling out all the stops to get the three points.

Things intensified from there with both men exchanging nearfalls. Knight then hit a coast-to-coast on Allin and followed that up with the UFO Splash for the pinfall victory.

Eddie Kingston cut a backstage promo saying that he wasn’t going to talk about Hook yet, but he would take out Shibata on Collision tomorrow night.

C2 Blue League Match

The main event of the evening saw Claudio Castagnoli taking on Orange Cassidy in a Blue League match.

The story of this match was Cassidy trying to put his hands in his pockets, while Castagnoli did everything in his power to stop him. Orange finally succeeded and hit Stundog Millionaire, but was cut down by a Claudio uppercut. Nearfalls went back and forth from there until Castagnoli hit the pop-up uppercut for the win. It was announced that next week, Claudio would face Jon Moxley in the C2.

Renee Paquette went to interview the Death Riders, but a brawl broke out, with essentially all the C2 competitors participating. Orange Cassidy delivered an Orange Punch to Wheeler Yuta as Kazuchika Okada watched on from the ramp as the show concluded.
