An incident at a C*4 Wrestling event in Ottawa saw the removal of several fans after they attempted to charge the ring.
The Canadian independent promotion ran its “Event Horizon” show on Friday in celebration of its eighteenth anniversary, which was marred by an incident before the main event.
A fan shared their account of the incident on Reddit:
Just prior to the main event, after the Referee was introduced, two large males jumped into the ring and attempted to assault the Ref with punches.
Security was quick to intervene and was able to grab them before they could actually land a punch.
Security did there best to subdue the assailants and get them out of the Event Centre venue. There were punches thrown throughout the process from both sides but the security seemed to be doing it through self-defence. Once the men were thrown out they tried to come back in and another scrum ensued until they were finally cast out for good.
After some recuperation time and checking everyone was okay, the show continued with a standing ovation of support for the Ref and staff. The Ref was shaken but continued working.
We spoke with promoter Mark Pollesel, who shared his perspective on the incident and emphasized that it was not an angle.
After a match between Kristara and Amira, security noticed several fans who may have been drunk and overheard them talking about rushing the ring.
Referee Serge St. Denis entered the ring for the main event when two to three people rushed the ring to attack him. Members of the C*4 team subdued them along with other members who were with the attackers at the show. It was described that punches were thrown, but that nobody appeared to be hurt on either side.
Pollesel acknowledged he got into a shouting match with the assailants after they tried to tell the venue owner that their run-in was part of the show.
Members of the roster backed up Pollesel at the venue and ushered the assailants away from the premises.
Pollesel reiterated that, “The incident as a whole is absolutely not something that ever happens at our shows. I can count on one hand how many times fans have gotten into the ring or confronted talents on one hand in 18 years. I absolutely hate that this all happened. The group that jumped in the ring was absolutely not regular fans, and not representative of our community. Something we are incredibly proud of is that we have an awesome, inclusive, and welcoming crowd. I just hate that anybody would try to cause problems on our anniversary like that”.
The footage will be edited out of the version that airs on IWTV this Tuesday night.
