A sexual assault lawsuit filed against Conor McGregor in relation to an alleged incident at a 2023 Miami Heat NBA playoff game has been dropped, per reports from the Irish Independent and Irish Times.
An attorney representing the woman who filed the lawsuit early this year has reportedly turned in a request for voluntary dismissal with prejudice earlier this week. Requesting a dismissal with prejudice means that the case cannot be refiled.
The lawsuit alleged that McGregor engaged in “unlawful sexual conduct” with a woman inside a washroom stall of the Miami Heat’s Kaseya Center two years ago. It was claimed that a member of McGregor’s entourage grabbed her by the wrist and brought her toward McGregor’s stall despite her protest.
The Miami Heat, as well as the Kaseya Center’s owners, were listed as defendants in the case as well due to “gross negligence.”
The Miami Police Department investigated the incident in 2023 but ultimately decided not to press criminal charges against McGregor. The former UFC fighter’s attorney called the allegations an attempted “shakedown.”
The lawsuit filed against McGregor earlier this year came just months after an Irish court found the MMA star liable in a civil case for sexually assaulting hairdresser Nikita Hand during a 2018 encounter in Dublin.
Three judges in the Court of Appeal in Dublin denied McGregor’s appeal in July, arguing that he didn’t adequately prove that he had an “unfair” trial. McGregor has since reportedly filed an application for appeal with the Supreme Court of Ireland.
