Bryan Danielson is hopeful he can avoid having neck surgery.

Danielson was interviewed by Chris Van Vliet and shared an update on his health status, primarily regarding neck issues.

He described his neck as having degeneration from the C1 down to the T2 vertebrae, which has intensified since returning to regular travel for his commentary duties in AEW.

Danielson said he’s considered to be “on the cusp” of needing the surgery and is hoping to put it off indefinitely, citing multiple factors, including not fully recovering from his last neck surgery to restore full mobility and strength. He also added the complexities of rehabilitating from neck surgery when having young children.

While not committing to being “fully retired”, he admits the old Bryan Danielson is done and that the travel demands have been a wake-up call regarding his neck issues.

Danielson’s last real match was in October 2024 in Tacoma, losing the AEW Championship to Jon Moxley. This past June, he did an impromptu eight-second match, beating Max Caster in Kent, Washington, at a Collision taping.
