The final episode of Impact from the tapings at Full Sail University featured an eight-man tag pitting Team TNA of The Hardys, Cedric Alexander & Steve Maclin against NXT’s Lexis King, Stacks Lorenzo & High Ryze, and the final hype for Final Resolution.

RESULTS

  • Brooks Jensen over The Home-Town Man
  • #1 Contender’s Match: Xia Brookside over Dani Luna
  • Mike Santana over Robert Stone
  • Mustafa Ali over Trey Miguel (Recommended)
  • Stacks Lorenzo, Lexis King & High Ryze over The Hardys, Steve Maclin & Cedric Alexander

The show began with a promotional package featuring several of the top stars to tout the launch on AMC on January 15.

The Home-Town Man vs. Brooks Jensen w/ Lexis King

Jensen attacked with a back breaker and proceeded to drop knees on his lower back.  Home-Town Man mounted a comeback with a body slam and the hometown elbow, and the hometown slice, but King got involved and led to a suicide dive by HTM. King grabbed HTM’s leg, and he turned around into a spinning heel kick by Jensen for the win.

WINNER: Brooks Jensen

The Rascalz did a segment in the treehouse where they played with the dual identities of Dezmond Xavier and Wes Lee, and now that he’s in TNA, he’s back to the original name. Then, they got high.

The IInspiration came to the ring and boasted that they are still the Knockouts tag champions. They are challenging any teams to “shoot your shot,” and the offer was taken by Tessa Blanchard & Victoria Crawford, who are the challenges at Final Resolution. Mila Moore jumped the champions from behind while Blanchard was speaking, and it’s a 3-on-2 attack. Blanchard didn’t do anything physical and exited the ring when Cassie Lee & Jessie McKay fought back. The Idolizer was delivered to Moore.

Santino Marella gave a speech to The Hardys, Steve Maclin, and Cedric Alexander to represent TNA in the main event against the NXT members.

Dani Luna vs. Xia Brookside

The winner will get to challenge Lei Ying Lee for the Knockouts title at Final Resolution.

Luna wrenched Brookside’s left knee around the middle rope and attacked the body part. Brookside was limping as she fired off clotheslines and used tilt-a-whirl head scissors. Brookside hit the Broken Wings (double knees) and a high cross for a two-count. Brookside applied an Octopus, but Luna broke free. Luna deadlifted Brookside into a Buckle Bomb and bounced her off the buckle into a Blue Thunder Bomb for a two-count.

Luna brought out a chair and a chain when Indi Hartwell ran down and attacked Luna and used the chain on her before rolling her into the ring. Brookside won with a small package.

WINNER: Xia Brookside

Lei Ying Lee celebrated Brookside’s win backstage and will make her first defense against her best friend and tag partner. Lee respects Brookside, and the best woman will win.

The injury report included the note that Tessa Blanchard is cleared for Final Resolution.

Robert Stone vs. Mike Santana

Stone jumped Santana as he entered from the crowd and got the early advantage. Santana is working on the existing arm injury from the NXT attack, but after being rammed into the post, he came back and hit Spin the Block to win immediately.

WINNER: Mike Santana

Santana said, “one down” and “Papi’s home”.

Frankie Kazarian cut a promo on JDC before their title match on Friday. He claimed JDC is jumping on the retirement “bandwagon” like John Cena and AJ Styles, “but they had runs, they were stars,” and JDC couldn’t be a star, “if you were thrown by a ninja,” and will end his “opening match, mid-card existence”.

The First Class Penthouse is hosted by AJ Francis, who is joined by Rich Swann in the ring. Francis blames Swann for not beating Leon Slater for the X Division title and brings out Slater. We had some great comedy about Francis’ bad breath. Slater mentioned Francis’ botched dive from SmackDown. Francis threatened to kill him and offered a toast, but gave an empty glass because he assumed he was too young to drink. Francis attacked him and used the table as an “Uncle Phil” chant began, and choked Slater with his jacket. Swann refused to attack Slater with the belt, and this upset Francis and resulting in a Down Payment on Slater.

The System reacts to the news of JDC’s upcoming retirement and moving on without him, and they need a new member.

JDC’s go-home promo focuses on twenty-seven years in the industry. He respects Kazarian but had to hear him cut a promo about his stardom and brought up how he’s wrestled at WrestleMania. They trained at the same place in Massachusetts and might have been a comedy act, but he’s serious now. A motorcycle was heard in the background, and JDC insisted they didn’t cut…they didn’t. One Take.

Mustafa Ali vs. Trey Miguel

The Rascalz and Order 4 are banned from ringside.

Miguel slid under the bottom turnbuckle and was caught with a draping DDT to the floor as Ali took control. Miguel connected with a handspring to knock Ali off the edge and slid through the ropes for a Tornado DDT on the floor. Miguel used a springboard into a Destroyer for a two-count, and the crowd began to chant. Miguel missed a Meteora landing on his knees, and Ali capitalized by applying a Sharpshooter to win.

WINNER: Mustafa Ali

The Countdown to Final Resolution will include Cedric Alexander taking on Eric Young at 8:30 p.m. ET on Friday.

The Hardys, Steve Maclin & Cedric Alexander vs. Lexis King, Stacks Lorenzo & High Ryze

The Hardys made their entrance as a distraction for Maclin and Alexander to jump the NXT team. Stacks was sent over the top with a hip toss onto his partners as the TNA squad controlled the ring. NXT took over with Alexander, including Kings and Stacks doing a dual Fargo Strut.

Tom Hannifan brought up High Ryze’s previous association with Dezmond Xavier, but they have no affiliation anymore.

After a dragon screw on Stacks, Alexander tagged Maclin.

An investigation has been launched by Carlos Silva regarding who allowed the NXT invaders into the building several weeks ago.

NXT got the advantage of Maclin after a sliding dropkick from King to the floor. It was built to a tag to Jeff Hardy and was knocked off the top by King to prevent a Swanton. All eight exchanged moves, including a Plot Twist on King, but the save was made. Poetry in Motion was hot to Stacks in a Tree of Woe, followed by Caught in the Crosshairs.

Maclin was ready to hit KIA on Stacks when King nailed him with his cane and allowed Stacks to pin the Int’l champion.

WINNERS: Stacks Lorenzo, Lexis King & High Ryze

The close of the show saw Santino Marella walk out to confront Stacks Lorenzo and the NXT crew.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This was a pretty average edition of Impact with a focus on Final Resolution, but it didn’t leave with the feeling of it being an important show on Friday. There were promo spots from Frankie Kazarian and JDC, but that doesn’t feel like a main event, even for one of the smaller TNA+ specials. The best match on the show was Mustafa Ali and Trey Miguel, with Ali as Ali continues to stand out in a major way on these shows. They inserted a lot of mentions hyping the move to AMC, and that was a good call and should be the focus of its programming for the next six weeks. This was an easy show to miss.
