Oba Femi reclaimed the NXT Championship from Ricky Saints in the opening contest of NXT Deadline.
The victory in San Antonio also earns Femi a match against Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in seven days.
The title change occurred just after the 17-minute mark when Femi pinned Saints following a sit-out powerbomb. Femi will now face Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
Femi utilized his strength advantage early to execute a backbreaker and a press slam. Saints relied on agility, connecting with a rope-walk axe handle and a spear for a two-count.
The champion applied a guillotine choke, but Femi powered out to deliver a draping gourd buster. The action spilled outside, where Saints executed a tornado DDT onto the steel steps.
Back inside, Femi countered a Roshambo attempt into a powerbomb for a near-fall. He secured the victory shortly after with the “Fall From Grace” to win the title.
Following the decision, Saints and Femi shook hands in the ring.
