AEW talent Kota Ibushi is optimistic about returning to the ring faster than his doctor’s estimate.

Ibushi, 43, suffered a broken femur on October 8 during a match with Josh Alexander at the AEW Collision Homecoming show at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville.

Following surgery, Ibushi stated that it was a one-year period to recover and two years until he could step back into the ring. On Tuesday, he posted a message on Instagram and was optimistic he could beat that timetable:

I suffered a serious injury. The doctor told me that it would take about two years for me to return to competition. It’s been about two months since I was injured. However, it seems that I don’t need that. But that doesn’t mean I’ll take any easy steps. This time, I really want to step into the wrestling ring. So please give me a little more time.

My English may be strange, but please forgive me

Ibushi has gone through several major injuries over the past four years. In October 2021, he suffered a major shoulder injury while executing a Phoenix Splash to Kazuchika Okada in the final of the G1 Climax and forced the match to be stopped. He missed seventeen months of action.

In January 2024, Ibushi wrestled with a broken ankle against Naomichi Marufuji and did further damage throughout the match, and missed another six months of action.

Ibushi signed with AEW in the summer of 2023 but has only had nine matches with the promotion.
