AEW Dynamite on 34th Street results: Bandido wins Dynamite Diamond Ring, Darby takes a tumble, Takeshita makes C2 semifinals

AEW presented a special Christmas Eve broadcast titled Dynamite on 34th Street on Wednesday.

The show was taped this past Saturday, December 20, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The episode featured critical Continental Classic matches, with Konosuke Takeshita becoming the first wrestler to advance to the semi-finals out of the Blue League, and Jack Perry’s victory over PAC creating a six-way logjam in the Gold League.

The broadcast also saw Bandido end MJF’s six-year reign as the Dynamite Diamond Ring holder, and a violent backstage confrontation between Gabe Kidd and a newly cleared Darby Allin.

Konosuke Takeshita vs. Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy attempted to catch Takeshita off guard early, tossing his sunglasses at the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion to set up quick pin attempts. Takeshita withstood the early flurry, countering with a Blue Thunder Bomb to take control.

The match spilled to the outside, where Cassidy executed a Beach Break on the apron, sending Takeshita into the front row. Takeshita narrowly beat the referee’s count at nine. Back in the ring, Cassidy countered a Raging Fire attempt into a small package, but Takeshita rolled through and connected with the Raging Fire knee strike to secure the pinfall.

With the victory, Takeshita reached 10 points, guaranteeing a spot in the Continental Classic semifinals at Worlds End.

Máscara Dorada vs. Roderick Strong

Already mathematically eliminated, Roderick Strong sought his first points of the tournament against Máscara Dorada. Strong utilized his signature backbreakers, including one onto the ring apron, to wear down his opponent.

Dorada rallied with high-flying offense, hitting a tope arm-drag to the outside. Inside the ring, Dorada survived a Sick Kick and countered the End of Heartache. He capitalized with a kick to the face followed by a Shooting Star Press to pin Strong, earning his second win of the tournament.

Bang Bang Gang targets FTR for Chicago Street Fight

Following the match, a video package aired featuring the Bang Bang Gang. Austin Gunn challenged FTR to a Chicago Street Fight for the AEW World Tag Team Championships at Worlds End.

Kris Statlander & Jamie Hayter Face-to-Face

Renee Paquette hosted a segment with AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander and challenger Jamie Hayter. Statlander delivered an impassioned speech about overcoming adversity, warning Hayter to fear what she has become.

Hayter reminded Statlander that the last time she hit her with a lariat, the champion didn’t get back up. The segment dissolved into a brawl before referees separated the two women.

MJF vs. Dustin Waller

In his first match since All Out, MJF made short work of Dustin Waller. After absorbing a chop, MJF retaliated with a hammerlock DDT and forced a submission with the Salt of the Earth armbar.

After the match, Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland interrupted MJF from the balcony. Page taunted MJF about his “no physicality” clause being left in England. Page and Strickland, along with Prince Nana, came to the ring and fought off members of the Opps Dojo.

Samoa Joe appeared on the screen, declaring he would defeat all three challengers at Worlds End. In the ring, Page and Strickland attacked MJF, with Swerve delivering a House Call while Page choked MJF with a chain. Strickland called MJF a “narcissistic piece of garbage” before leaving him lying in the ring.

Bandido vs. Ricochet

The final of the Dynamite Diamond Ring tournament featured Ricochet, accompanied by the Gates of Agony, against Bandido, who was seconded by Brody King. Bandido showcased his agility, countering Ricochet’s offense with a Macarena dance and a press slam to the apron.

Late in the match, Ricochet attempted to use the Spirit Gun, but Bandido ducked and trapped him in a crucifix pin to win the match and the ring. This marks the first time since the ring’s introduction in 2019 that someone other than MJF has won it.

With the win, Bandido gets a shot at the AEW World Championship on January 14 at Dynamite: Maximum Carnage.

Darby Allin and Gabe Kidd ‘stair down’

In a backstage interview with Lexy Nair, Darby Allin confirmed he has been medically cleared to compete. When asked about Gabe Kidd, Allin dismissed him, stating he had “bigger things to worry about.”

Kidd immediately ambushed Allin, dragging him to a stairwell. In a callback to previous assaults, Kidd threw Allin down the flight of stairs before mocking Allin’s earlier comment.

Marina Shafir vs. Mina Shirakawa

Mina Shirakawa requested that Timeless Toni Storm remain backstage for her match against Marina Shafir. Shirakawa targeted Shafir’s leg early, applying a figure-four leglock. Shafir escaped by snapping Shirakawa’s fingers.

Shafir then locked in her Mother’s Milk submission to force the tap-out. When Shafir reapplied the hold after the bell, Toni Storm ran in for the save but was immediately laid out with a kick by Shafir.

The Elite Medical Update

Lexy Nair interviewed The Elite backstage regarding their status. Matt Jackson announced that The Young Bucks are not medically cleared to compete for the remainder of the year. Kenny Omega stated that The Elite would always support one another, but noted he had business to attend to on his own while his partners recover.

Jack Perry vs. PAC

In the main event, Jack Perry faced PAC in a critical Gold League matchup. PAC targeted Perry, hitting a brutal missile dropkick and an avalanche belly-to-belly suplex for a near-fall.

Perry fought back, hitting a Poison Rana and a lariat. PAC locked in the Brutalizer twice, but Perry escaped the first time by reaching the ropes and the second by biting PAC’s hand. Perry then countered into a victory roll to score the pinfall.

The result leaves the Gold League in a six-way tie with all competitors on six points heading into the final night of league action on Christmas Collision.

Following the match, Luchasaurus entered dressed as “Santa-saurus,” distributing gifts to the crowd as the show went off the air.
