The much-discussed revival of New Japan’s Young Lion Cup is confirmed.

A six-man tournament will begin this month and take place over three shows, with the final set for February 1.

The first-round matches will see Masatora Yasuda face Tatsuya Murashima and Daiki Nagai take on Zane Jay. Shoma Kato receives a first-round bye and will meet the winner of Yasuda/Murashima on January 20, while Katsuya Murashima also receives a bye to meet the winner of Nagai/Jay.

The finals will be held at Korakuen Hall as part of the Road to New Beginning tour.

The Young Lion Cup became an annual tournament for New Japan in the mid-1980s and was revived at various points when called for. Past winners include Jushin Thunder Liger (before he adopted the character in 1989), Naoki Sano, Satoshi Kojima, Hirooki Goto, and Karl Fredericks.
