Yoshiki Inamura’s reign as GHC Heavyweight Champion survived beyond a match against former tag partner Masa Kitamiya on Sunday night.
Inamura retained in a nearly 30-minute battle between the massive, hard-hitting heavyweights this weekend, headlining NOAH’s Legacy Rise card from Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.
Battling against the man he once wrestled alongside as part of tag duo “THE TOUGH,” Inamura had to overcome interference along with Kitamiya’s physical style.
Represented by the House of Torture-esque Team 2000X faction, Kitamiya got ahead during many points of the match via blatant interference. The ref was down for a comically long amount of time during the first half of the bout, allowing for numerous members of the group to attack Inamura at ringside. Later on, “The Chairman” Kitamiya utilized his favorite weapon, the steel chair, scoring a piledriver onto the metal.
Sugiura seemingly got split open on his forehead at one point after landing a legitimate, thudding headbutt.
Inamura neared a pinfall win after scoring his Discharge frogsplash off the top, although the referee was dragged out of the ring by Yoshitatsu to prevent a pinfall from being counted.
It was later a combination of Inamura’s Muso sideslam, followed by another top-rope frogsplash, which earned him the pinfall win.

The post-match segment with Inamura was a repeat of what happened following his January 1 victory. While initially challenged to a match by Kenoh on Sunday (who also challenged him on New Year’s Day), he had to choose between two opponents after the NOAH babyface was attacked by Team 2000X’s Takashi Sugiura.
In a position where he didn’t know who to choose, Inamura eventually offered to give Sugiura a title matchup. He extended his arm for a handshake, but Sugiura instead left the ring.
Inamura mentioned afterward that he is willing to take down all of Team 2000X if needed, but eventually wants to make his way to a match against Kenoh as well.
It does seem as though NOAH are positioning Inamura as the counter to the promotion’s top heel group. He’s just over a week removed from a win over the group’s stand-out talent OZAWA, and now looks to have a date against Sugiura set for sometime in the future.
Inamura has been NOAH’s top name since November, when he put an end to KENTA’s reign with the title. The championship run started just a few months after he returned from a run in NXT, where he teamed with Josh Briggs before a singles rivalry with him.
Daiki Odashima impresses in junior heavyweight title match against AMAKUSA
AMAKUSA prevailed in a junior heavyweight title co-main event which put a massive spotlight on 24-year-old up-and-comer Daiki Odashima.
Odashima, a wrestler who made his debut a little over a year ago and was challenging for a singles title for the first time in his career, put a significant effort in against three-time champ AMAKUSA in their 16-minute bout.
The young talent at one point reversed a move from AMAKUSA into a Canadian Destroyer, then scored a pair of deadlift German Suplexes for a near fall. In an impressive spot earlier in the match, he scored a huge superplex bridged into a pin attempt.
While he kicked out of a Crucifix Bomb, Odashima was put away after taking a Sunshine Hero then Corkscrew Splash for the pinfall by AMAKUSA.
In a testament to how the match put over Odashima, the crowd was chanting his name as he was helped to the back afterward. He currently holds junior tag gold alongside Daga, belts they have possessed since October.

“That was just a year and a half in. Impressive.
Tonight wasn’t about whose love was stronger. The future can change in countless ways. Climb again. As many times as it takes.Tonight, Daiki Odashima deserves full respect.

The co-main event was AMAKUSA’s first appearance since unseating Hiromu Takahashi earlier this month to begin his third run with the singles belt.
Team 2000X gains new member, Ulka Sasaki loses to KENTA in send-off match
Heel faction Team 2000X gained yet another member on Sunday night, with Kai Fujimura crossing over to the dark side.
Attacking his brother and teammate Alejandro, Fujimura cost his team a win in eight-man tag action against Team 2000X’s squad. After the match, he put on a shirt from the faction and made it clear that he had switched sides.
Betraying his blood brother, Fujimura followed the footsteps of Alpha Wolf, who split Dragon Bane during NOAH’s The New Year card earlier this month.
In his final appearance before going on an excursion, Ulka Sasaki lost to former GHC Heavyweight Champion KENTA in 11 minutes.
Just days after joining KENTA’s newly formed White Raven Squad faction, Sasaki announced that he would be taking a leave from NOAH for an excursion in America. This frustrated KENTA, who called for a send-off match against him on today’s Korakuen card.
KENTA tested Sasaki’s toughness in the match, pulling his head up from a pin attempt late in the bout and urging him to keep fighting. Eventually, it was his GTS which put an end to the bout.
It’s unclear where Sasaki will go when he heads to the U.S. Among the many places NOAH has sent their prospects as of late has been WWE’s NXT brand, where Yoshiki Inamura found himself last year before starting his ongoing title reign.
KENTA was attacked during the post-match by Los Tranquilos de Japon’s BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito. BUSHI and Naito are set to defend against KENTA and HAYATA on NOAH’s February 11 card. The champs teased doing two preview matchups, including a six-man tag bout with another Los Tranquilos de Japon surprise teammate appearing.
