Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did not receive a Best Actor nomination when the 98th Academy Awards nominees were announced on Thursday.

Johnson had been in the awards-season conversation for his portrayal of former UFC heavyweight tournament winner Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, but the Best Actor field went to Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).

The Smashing Machine did pick up one nomination: Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

The A24 biopic pairs Johnson with Emily Blunt, who plays Kerr’s wife, Dawn Staples, and follows Kerr at the height of his career while also depicting his struggles with addiction.

After an October 2025 theatrical release, the film is set to debut on HBO Max on January 23.

Earlier this month, Johnson was nominated for a Golden Globe for the performance but lost to Moura.

Johnson is also attached to another Benny Safdie project titled Lizard Music, while Disney’s live-action Moana is currently dated for release on July 10, 2026.

The timing of Johnson’s next WWE appearance remains unclear, though he recently referenced “good conversations” about potential involvement with WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia in 2027.

The Oscars ceremony is set for March 15.
