MJF retained the AEW World Championship, and the championship match at Revolution is set.

The main event of Grand Slam Australia saw MJF retain the championship by pinning Brody King after a much lengthier match than their eliminator bout to set it up.

One of the biggest questions was whether the crowd in Sydney would engage in the anti-ICE chants, and they were audible at the beginning of the match but much more subdued than the audience in Las Vegas earlier this month.

The focus of the match was MJF’s attack on King’s knee, which was weakened throughout the match. MJF avoided a Ganzo Bomb and applied a sleeper when King’s knee buckled, and he fell to the mat in the submission. Bandido showed up to encourage King not to give up, and he survived.

King ran MJF into the barricade with a Death Valley Drive and rolled him into the ring. He hung MJF over the apron in a choke and proceeded to hit the Ganzo Bomb, which MJF did kick out of.

King tried another Ganzo Bomb on the edge of the apron; it was blocked, and MJF hoisted the challenger in a Tombstone position and slammed him onto his back.

King struggled to his feet and was hit by a Heat Seeker as MJF scored the clean pinfall.

Earlier in the night, Hangman Page beat Andrade El Idolo to become the No. 1 contender at Revolution in Los Angeles next month.

The show ended with Page walking down to the ring with a contract and signing it before winding up to punch Max, who backpedaled and fell to the mat.

It was announced that MJF and Page will have a “face-to-face” segment on this Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite in Sacramento, California.
