Stipulations for Rey de Reyes

The stipulations for the AAA Mega Championship match at Rey de Reyes were finalized on Saturday’s episode.

The March 14 meeting between champion Dominik Mysterio and El Hijo del Vikingo will see Mysterio forced to exit the promotion if he loses the title. El Hijo del Vikingo will not be able to challenge Mysterio for the title again as long as he’s champion if he loses in his hometown of Puebla next month.

The match is also going to be a No Disqualification match.

The contract signing was the final segment of the show, and there was zero mention of Mysterio putting his hair on the line as had been outlined in Vikingo’s challenge two weeks ago.

Vikingo was joined by El Ojo for the segment and aired a video of Vikingo dressed up as a doctor inside the hospital where Mini Vikingo is recovering. Vikingo attacked him in his hospital bed and tipped over the bed as a symbol of what he would do to Mysterio.

Omos was about to attack Mysterio in the ring as El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) ran down and struck Omos with a chair to the back, which had no impact. Grande had Dominik’s back, then Chad Gable ran out and jumped Kaiser from behind as Dominik just watched and didn’t help.

War Raiders to challenge for tag titles

The AAA tag titles will be defended at Rey de Reyes with the announcement of Pagano & Psycho Clown defending the belts against the War Raiders.

The WWE team became the No. 1 contenders after winning a four-way match against Los Americanos and Money Machine last week.

The story involving the clowns is that a mystery attacker has been taking the group out one by one, with Panic Clown and Dave the Clown laid out backstage over the past few weeks.

Santos Escobar attacks

El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. issued an open challenge for the Latin American Championship, which was answered by Belcegor.

The match was short with Wagner hitting a step-up knee, Death Valley Driver, and spinning powerbomb for the win.

He was dressed in the colors and mask of El Fantasma to goad Santos Escobar. Wagner called out Escobar after the match, who appeared on the screen, stating he wasn’t in Mexico and it would happen on his terms.

It led to an angle backstage where Wagner was jumped by Escobar, who was there, and told Wagner to be careful what he wished for.

The Martinete!!

Abismo Negro Jr. and El Fiscal had a video recapping their history on last week’s episode and aired again this week. The match was just a set-up for another one as they brawled on the floor, and Fiscal shoved the referee for the disqualification.

It escalated into a pull-apart brawl after Fiscal attempted the Martinete, and the announcers sold how dangerous the move is. He didn’t hit the move as security intervened. This match, as brief as it was, had the most heat.

Laredo Kid Retains

Laredo Kid retained the Cruiserweight title by beating TJP. There was a school-boy roll-up by Perkins, and he grabbed the rope for leverage and was caught. So, Laredo Kid reversed a Victory Roll, and when Perkins grabbed the rope to break the cover, the referee didn’t see it, and Perkins got burned on the finish. This match didn’t have the time to get going and become anything special beyond the story of the referee blowing the call and Perkins being upset.

Next Week

  • Rey de Reyes – Qualifying Match: Ethan Page vs. Omos vs. Pimpinela Escarlata vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.
  • Jack Cartwheel vs. Dragon Lee

Final Thoughts

This show was heavily angle-based, with the wrestling not even securing a spot in the backseat. The contract signing had a lot of heat for the principal players, but the sudden video of the hospital attack on Mini Vikingo didn’t work like I thought it would. It felt too disjointed from the contract scene, and Dominik Mysterio blew it off and didn’t care about the attack, so it achieved very little other than my hope that Mini Vikingo’s mother mourns the attack on her son next week.

Beyond that, everything felt rushed with the usual three-match format and multiple talking segments condensed into forty-eight minutes.

This wasn’t a must-see show, but you can see the building blocks of all the major matches coming.
